🦴 Myth Buster: "You should never squat after pelvic surgery."

❌ Myth:Squatting is unsafe after pelvic surgery and should be avoided forever.

βœ… Fact:For many people, squatting is a safe, functional, and important part of recovery, when introduced at the right time and progressed appropriately.

Squatting is a movement we use every day, from sitting and standing to picking something up, lifting groceries, or playing with children. Following pelvic surgery, recovery is individual, but one of the goals is often to gradually return to these everyday movements.

Why is squatting important?

βœ” It's functional: Squatting is an essential movement pattern used throughout daily life.

βœ” It builds strength:It strengthens your glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings, and core to support everyday movement.

βœ” It supports recovery: With good technique and appropriate progression, squats help your muscles work together efficiently and restore movement.

βœ” It builds confidence: Gradually returning to squatting helps you move with confidence again.

A physiotherapist and exercise physiologist can help you:

βœ” Progress your movement safely
βœ” Strengthen your pelvic floor and surrounding muscles
βœ” Improve confidence with everyday activities
βœ” Prescribe and progress evidence-based exercise that gradually rebuilds strength, function, and load tolerance based on your surgery, goals, and stage of recovery

The key isn't avoiding movement, it's choosing the right movement at the right time.

If you've had pelvic surgery and aren't sure what's appropriate for your recovery, we're here to help you return to movement safely and confidently.
