Last week, the ASO and IRIS teams attended the Parliamentary Friends Group for Eye Health and Vision Care Function and Exhibition at Parliament House, Canberra. 👁️

The event brought parliamentarians and the eye health sector together to discuss the issues affecting Australians’ vision and access to care. It was a valuable opportunity to connect with decision-makers and keep ophthalmology’s priorities front of mind in Canberra.

A win for older Australians 👏 The Senate has blocked the bill to cut the private health insurance rebate for over-65s.

We couldn't be prouder to see our member, Associate Professor Kris Rallah-Baker, featured on ABC's Australian Story tonight 👁️

Kris is Australia's first and currently the only First Nations ophthalmologist, and his journey to get there was anything but easy.

As his uncle once told him, getting where you want to be in life is rarely achieved in a straight line. Kris has walked a zigzag path through medical training, challenged the barriers put in front of him, and come out the other side a trailblazer for those following behind.

His work reaches far beyond his Noosa practice. Kris travels regularly to remote communities, restoring sight to patients where eye disease hits First Nations people hardest, and he's mentoring the next generation of Indigenous doctors along the way.

Kris, thank you for the vision, the grit, and the trail you're blazing for others. 💙
