Why I recommend continuing weekly acupuncture during the first trimester.
A positive pregnancy test is such a special milestone after the journey of trying to conceive.
While it's often the moment we celebrate reaching that goal, from a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective it's also the beginning of an important new chapter, as we shift our focus from supporting conception to supporting and nourishing a developing pregnancy.
It's also around this time that we often have a conversation about what treatment might look like over the coming weeks and months. Many women wonder whether they still need to come as regularly now that they're pregnant.
In Chinese medicine, we place a strong focus on nourishing Kidney energy, which plays a central role in conception, pregnancy, and supporting and nourishing a developing pregnancy.
Your body is also adapting to enormous physical and hormonal changes. During this time, acupuncture may provide gentle support as your body adjusts, with treatments always tailored to your individual needs and symptoms.
Many women experience nausea, fatigue, headaches, poor sleep or heightened anxiety during the first trimester. Continuing regular treatment allows us to support you through these changes while monitoring how you're feeling from week to week.
Once you're into the second trimester and everything is progressing well, we can usually begin spacing treatments further apart. For many women, this means moving to treatments every 3 to 4 weeks, although your treatment plan is always tailored to you and your pregnancy.
If you're unsure what treatment schedule may be most appropriate during your pregnancy, please reach out. I'd be happy to chat through what may be right for you.
