๐Ÿฆด Today is World Osteoporosis Day โ€” and bone loss is famously quiet. For many people, the first sign is a broken bone.

Osteoporosis affects over 1.2 million Australians and leads to more than 173,000 broken bones every year.

The good news: calcium, a little safe sunshine for vitamin D, and regular weight-bearing exercise all help build and protect your bones at any age ๐Ÿ’ช. Healthy Bones Australia's free "Know Your Bones" online check is a great place to start.

Wondering about your own bone health? Pop in and have a chat with your Pharmacist ๐Ÿ’š

"I've been taking these for months โ€” is that alright?" ๐Ÿค”

It's one of the questions we hear most at the counter, and the honest answer is: now and then is fine, but often is worth looking at.

healthdirect's advice is that if you're getting heartburn twice a week or more, or you're relying on something to keep it away, that's a conversation with your doctor โ€” not a bigger box.

One important thing: some reflux symptoms and some heart attack symptoms look identical. If chest pain is severe or you're unsure, call Triple Zero (000).

Happy to talk it through โ€” just ask for the Pharmacist. ๐Ÿ’š

Warm afternoons mean more time in the garden, on the trails and out at the dog park. This is one worth knowing before you ever need it. ๐Ÿ

If someone is bitten: call Triple Zero (000), lie them down and keep them completely still. Don't wash, suck or cut the bite, and never try to catch the snake.

For a leg or arm bite, bandage firmly upwards from the toes or fingersโ€”as tight as you'd strap a sprained ankleโ€”then splint it and leave it on until a doctor removes it.

Queensland Poisons Information Centre is on 13 11 26, 24 hours a day. A broad crepe bandage in the car is a very small thing to carry. ๐Ÿš—

Not everyone standing at our counter is collecting for themselves. ๐Ÿ’™

It's the daughter picking up for her mum. The neighbour dropping in on the way home. The partner who knows the repeat is due before anyone's had to ask.

You probably don't think of it as anything much. We notice it every single day.

Thanks for looking after each other, Milton Village. ๐Ÿงก

National Nutrition Week starts today โ€” and it isn't about dieting. ๐Ÿฅ—

Nutrition Australia is running 12โ€“18 October on the theme of being connected and nourished, and one of the four things they're focusing on is the link between food, mood and mental wellbeing.

No rules, no cleanse, no shopping list. Just one shared meal this week with someone you like.

And if a medicine you're on has changed your appetite or your taste for food, that's worth a quiet word with your Pharmacist. ๐Ÿ’š

Thirsty all the time. Up in the night for the loo. Tired in a way that sleeping doesn't fix. ๐Ÿฉบ

Easy to put down to a busy few months. Sometimes it's type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes Australia estimates almost 1.9 million Australians are living with diabetes โ€” and up to 500,000 of them don't know it yet, because early type 2 can be very quiet.

It's a simple blood test through your GP. If any of that sounds familiar, it's worth a conversation, and your Pharmacist is an easy place to start. ๐Ÿ’š

Diabetes is the epidemic of the 21st century and the biggest challenge confronting Australiaโ€™s health system.

Today is World Sight Day. ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ

Here's the thing about eyes: most of us only book a test once something's already gone wrong. But some conditions โ€” glaucoma is the usual example โ€” can develop with no pain and no obvious early symptoms at all.

A proper eye test checks a lot more than whether you need glasses.

If it's been a while, and for most of us it has, treat this as your nudge. And if your eyes have just been dry, gritty or tired from screens, come and have a chat with us first. ๐Ÿ’š

Queensland doesn't do daylight saving. Your body clock didn't get the memo. ๐ŸŒค๏ธ

Light is the strongest signal your body clock has โ€” and right now the sun's coming up earlier and setting later every week. That's why spring can leave you waking before the alarm and still feeling like you haven't caught up.

Two things that genuinely help: get some light on your face soon after you wake, and keep the lights low in the hour before bed.

If you've been reaching for something to help you sleep, have a chat with your Pharmacist first โ€” a few options interact with medicines you may already be taking. ๐Ÿ’š

This is a fact sheet about the Body Clock. The circadian rhythm is a natural, internal biological clock that helps regulate things such as body temperature, hormones and sleep.
