Layla's journey to victory

Layla's journey to victory https://gofund.me/0477515f4
We want to share Layla's story of relapsed alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma and her treatment.

18/08/2026

Layla started round 15 of chemotherapy yesterday.
After her PET scan and a chat with her oncologist last Thursday, the plan is to continue with another round of chemo while we wait for Steve, her oncologist, to meet with the surgeons this Thursday to discuss whether a biopsy is possible.

The reason for this is that her PET scan is still lighting up. They are fairly confident that what they’re seeing is treatment related inflammation rather than tumour, but unfortunately, they can never know for certain from a scan alone.

We don’t know what Thursday will bring. The surgeons may say yes to a biopsy, or they may decide it’s too unsafe. So, for now, we’re stuck in the waiting game with no real plan beyond Thursday, that’s life in the oncology world. Always waiting.

Layla was pretty tired by the end of today and fell asleep on the couch, but she is doing absolutely amazing through all of this.

So for now, we wait and hopefully have some more answers and a clearer plan on Thursday.

We really do have the best oncologist. Steve is so kind to Layla and always makes us feel like he is truly in our corner, and we are so grateful to have him walking this journey with us.

And please enjoy this little video of us driving home after another very long day at the hospital yesterday 😂 The reason for all of Layla’s sassiness and cheekiness was simply because I didn’t hear her properly, she was NOT impressed about it! 😂 She definitely let me know exactly how she felt about that 😂

Honestly, I’m not angry about it one bit! She has always been on the quieter side, so seeing her slowly come out of her shell and letting that cheeky little personality shine through makes my heart so happy. I had a very good laugh!

Today we officially finished Round 14 of chemotherapy. What an incredible achievement for our brave little Layla. 💛

This round wasn't the easiest, with treatment delays and the daily battle of taking 8mL of the most awful-tasting oral chemo (I don't think I'd manage it either!). But, like always, Layla has faced every challenge with so much strength, courage and resilience.

Her oncologist is so happy with how she's doing and has given us the all clear to enjoy three whole weeks away from the hospital before her PET scan in mid-August.

For now, it's time to let her little body rest and recover, soak up precious family time, and make the most of this break before the next big milestone.

And this photo? Layla is laughing because her brother thought it would be a great idea to ram his giant dump truck into Mum's legs. 🥴🤣 Moments like these are exactly what we've been looking forward to ✨️☀️

Today our little princess was meant to start round 14, but Layla's blood results showed her neutrophils are too low to begin chemotherapy. It means we get a little unexpected break until Thursday, when they'll retest her blood and hopefully we'll be able to get started then.

While we're disappointed to have a delay (we're so ready to get this round behind us), Layla's health will always come first. So for now, we'll make the most of the sunshine, enjoy this extra time together, and let her little body rest and recover.

As always, thank you to everyone who continues to support us, pray for us, and keep our beautiful girl in your thoughts. Every step, no matter how small, brings us one step closer. 💛✨️🩷✨️💜

Today marks Layla’s last day of Round 13 of chemo. 💛✨

She was lucky enough to have her Pop by her side today, seeing firsthand just how much she goes through and how incredibly brave and strong she is every single treatment. We are so proud of our little warrior and the courage she continues to show.

Now it’s time for a well-deserved two-week break to rest, recharge, and enjoy making some special memories together before the next round. Thank you to everyone who continues to support, pray for, and think of our beautiful girl. One step closer. 💛✨

After taking some time to rest and recover following her recent scans, we’re now preparing for Round 13 starting tomorrow.

The results brought some encouraging news. Although the area is still “lighting up” on the PET scan, doctors believe it may be inflammation caused by radiation, which could mean the radiation has done exactly what it was meant to do. At this stage though, they still can’t completely rule out tumour.

The plan from here is for Layla to have two more rounds of chemotherapy, followed by another PET scan. After that, her team will discuss the possibility of biopsies in different areas to help confirm whether what is showing on the scan is radiation-related inflammation or tumour.

We still don’t have an end date, and this journey continues to bring plenty of unknowns. But with every scan and every treatment, we know we are one step closer to the finish line.
To the oncology world, numbers, percentages, and statistics help guide treatment. But Layla has never been just a number or a statistic to us. She is our daughter, and she is so much more than that. Our amazing Layla is strong, resilient, and brave beyond words. We are so proud of her and everything she continues to overcome ✨️🩷💜

Today marks the last day of Round 12 of chemotherapy for our superstar Layla. 💛 Having her big brother by her side for support has made this round extra special. Now she gets a well-earned 10-day break & a scan on Monday. We’re staying hopeful, keeping positive, and taking each day as it comes. Layla continues to show unbelievable strength and courage through it all — she’s a true warrior. ✨💛

After a well-deserved break between rounds, our brave little superstar Layla begins Round 12 of chemotherapy today. 💛✨

With another scan coming up soon, we’re taking things one day at a time, staying positive. Layla has been incredibly lucky to have her big brother by her side for the next few weeks, giving her extra love, strength, and support as she continues this journey.

Layla’s GoFundMe page remains open, and any support—big or small—is deeply appreciated during times like these. Every contribution helps ease the burden and means more than words can express.

Nurses must of been short staff on such a big day so Layla and her friend took over the nurses station, making very important phone calls😝🤣

Thank you to everyone who continues to keep Layla in your thoughts and cheer her on every step of the way. 💛✨

This week is National Families Week, and today marks Day 3 of round 11 of chemo for Layla 💛

The hospital often puts on activities for the kids, such as face painting, arts & crafts, fairy floss making, and even had little puppies there for the kids to play with. Layla got her face painted and of course wanted some fairy floss too — and honestly, she gets whatever she wants. After everything she goes through, and how incredibly brave she is every single day, she deserves it all.

After some fun and smiles, we headed up To clinic to do her OBS and waited for the nurses before treatment. She then started to do some stickers in her sticker book and snack on some food. Watching her continue to fight with such strength will never stop amazing us. Our little warrior keeps pushing through no matter what 💪🎗️

Round 11 today for our Brave little warrior Layla 💛✨

Before chemo she got her face painted, patted and even got to feed the farm animals, and smashed a full bowl of watermelon, strawberries & grapes 🍉🍓🍇

Now it’s time to kick back on the iPad while the chemo runs.

We honestly can’t thank everyone enough for the love, prayers & support through this journey. Layla continues to show us every single day just how brave and strong she really is 💪✨

After nearly nine hours at the hospital yesterday for Layla’s first PET scan in almost three months, following radiation and three rounds of chemo, we finally received some positive news.
Our oncologist walked us through the images, and from both his perspective and ours, the tumour appears to be less active. One area in her knee that was present back in February has now completely disappeared.
We later received a phone call last night confirming that, after further review, the team agreed with this assessment: the tumour has reduced slightly in size and is showing less activity overall. Everything is tracking in the right direction. As the oncologist explained, the tumour is “burning out.”
The plan moving forward is to continue with her current chemotherapy treatment, starting round 11 on Monday, with the possibility of a few additional rounds to make sure it is completely gone this time.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout this journey, it truly means more than words can express. We haven’t posted much lately, as this was our first scan in quite some time, and we’ve been focusing on spending some quality time together. ✨💛
