Layla started round 15 of chemotherapy yesterday.
After her PET scan and a chat with her oncologist last Thursday, the plan is to continue with another round of chemo while we wait for Steve, her oncologist, to meet with the surgeons this Thursday to discuss whether a biopsy is possible.
The reason for this is that her PET scan is still lighting up. They are fairly confident that what they’re seeing is treatment related inflammation rather than tumour, but unfortunately, they can never know for certain from a scan alone.
We don’t know what Thursday will bring. The surgeons may say yes to a biopsy, or they may decide it’s too unsafe. So, for now, we’re stuck in the waiting game with no real plan beyond Thursday, that’s life in the oncology world. Always waiting.
Layla was pretty tired by the end of today and fell asleep on the couch, but she is doing absolutely amazing through all of this.
So for now, we wait and hopefully have some more answers and a clearer plan on Thursday.
We really do have the best oncologist. Steve is so kind to Layla and always makes us feel like he is truly in our corner, and we are so grateful to have him walking this journey with us.
And please enjoy this little video of us driving home after another very long day at the hospital yesterday 😂 The reason for all of Layla’s sassiness and cheekiness was simply because I didn’t hear her properly, she was NOT impressed about it! 😂 She definitely let me know exactly how she felt about that 😂
Honestly, I’m not angry about it one bit! She has always been on the quieter side, so seeing her slowly come out of her shell and letting that cheeky little personality shine through makes my heart so happy. I had a very good laugh!
One day at a time our amazing Layla 🩷
