🤯 I am an expert on feeling anxious, disconnected and overwhelmed! Are you? Many of us are.

🕉️ The practice that I use is mantra and we have found in almost all of our scientific studies that people feel more connected, they feel part of something bigger, they feel unity with others, when they chant and sound together in groups, or even alone. We find people report being higher in altruism (kindness), and experience altered states such as ego dissolution and mystical experiences whereby they feel connected to others or nature or the universe! 💫

🧘‍♀️ Like many, I came to yoga practices through making shapes with my body as the modern world of yoga has emphasised this aspect, but my yoga practice these days looks very different and includes philosophy (a lot!), mythology, fire ceremony, chanting, pranayama (breath), did I mention chanting? 🕉️🕉️🕉️ 😉

This is the first in person course I am sharing since I arrived on the Gold Coast 3 years ago. It will be a beautiful 6 week winter retreat amongst the gorgeous bush of Tallebudgera

We will do some movement, chanting, silent mantra meditation practice, breathing, visualisation and some yoga nidra!
This course is focused on the subtle body according to the ta***ic yoga tradition and you will take away a lifelong practice that you can take with you everywhere and anywhere.

These practices have changed and continue to change my life. The science I have conducted over the last 10 years on these practices shows us that these practices are changing lots of lives through decreased stress, enhanced focus, increased self compassion, altered states of consciousness and neurological changes.

My passion is sharing these practices with you.

Surrender, a concept I’ve been getting familiar with this week, amongst the struggles of letting go of what I thought was going to happen, and being present with what is actually happening. You know, when the universe has other plans!

Across spiritual traditions, surrender has never meant giving up. In yoga, it’s Ishvara Pranidhana, offering your actions to something greater than yourself. In Buddhism, it’s releasing attachment to outcome and accepting the way things are. In Sufism, it’s the taming or even dissolving of the ego.

🕉️ In mantra practice, surrender can be practiced and eventually embodied. Each repetition is a small letting go, a small act of devotion, a little shift towards offering yourself and your actions up to universal consciousness, to nature, to life.

We don’t chant to arrive somewhere. We chant to realise that we are indeed already here.

🕉️ The word 'mantra' gets thrown around a lot in the modern world but is an English affirmation actually a mantra? And do they even work?

🧠 Positive affirmations can actually backfire if you don’t believe them. When people with low self esteem say something they don’t fully believe in, then their mind will push back and reinforce the opposite!

🕉️ Mantra works differently. It doesn’t ask your ego to agree. It bypasses the mental chatter and points to the unseen rather than the material world.

🧘‍♀️ This is something to be mindful of when making your sankalpa (resolve) for your yoga practice. You really need to feel your sankalpa in all the right places, not just say words.
