Yes. Great question. When people are rejected what are the “mainstream supports”? I’ve been in the industry for many years and have no clue. State government services for children and adults are overwhelmed. Medicare is limited to a small number of services and the rebate would mean healthcare workers would be better off working in hospitality. I really love what the NDIS has done for people but removing a service using blanket rules is not the way. Functional capacity assessment is a start but it needs to be more than what a person can and can’t do. We need to look at the person in the context of their community and setting. Caring for a person with a disability is incredibly tough. Living with a disability is even tougher.
