Self-compassion isn't letting yourself off the hook. It's changing the way you respond to yourself when you're struggling.

Many of us speak to ourselves in ways we'd never speak to someone we care about. Yet research consistently shows that self-compassion isn't about lowering standards or making excuses. It's about responding to challenges with the same understanding, encouragement, and perspective we'd offer a friend. Often, real growth begins when we stop fighting ourselves and start understanding ourselves more deeply, with kindness rather than judgement.

Self-compassion allows us to hold our imperfections and our strengths at the same time, accepting ourselves as we are while remaining open to change, learning, and growth.

Research suggests that self-compassion supports emotional resilience and wellbeing. When we're less caught up in self-criticism, we're often better able to take responsibility for our mistakes, learn from them, and move forward in meaningful ways.

🦆 The Great Duck Hunt! 🦆

One of our lovely young clients has a very special love of ducks, and she recently gifted one to Ben. 💚

Since then, Ben has made it a little tradition to hide the duck around the waiting room for her to find when she comes in for her appointment. And somehow, she finds it within seconds every single time! 👀🦆

But today, the tables were turned…

She decided it was finally time to hide the duck from Ben. And let’s just say… she very quickly discovered that Ben is, in fact, pretty blind. 😂

We love these little moments of connection and personality that make our space feel like our space 💚

Two presentations, one important message: when we support the wellbeing of healthcare professionals, everyone benefits. 💚

This week, Steve presented at the ANZCHOG Conference at Newcastle City Hall.

On Wednesday, Steve facilitated a workshop for paediatric oncology nurses focused on professional wellbeing. On Thursday, he shared the Clinical Supervision Program being delivered with the John Hunter Children's Hospital oncology nursing team, highlighting how clinical supervision supports staff wellbeing, professional development, and ultimately improves care for children and their families.

We're proud to see this work helping to strengthen and support the healthcare workforce. 💚

Some of our team completed a First Aid course, building their knowledge and confidence to respond in emergency situations.

Learning doesn't stop once qualifications are achieved. By continuing to develop our skills, we're better equipped to provide a safe, supportive environment for our clients, colleagues, and community.

A big thank you to everyone who took part and to the trainers for sharing their expertise. 🌿

Last week, our team took some time to slow down and connect through art.

Each person painted their own unique canvas, and when we brought them all together, they formed one beautiful tree. 🌳

It was a reminder that while each of us brings our own strengths, perspectives, and experiences, we're all part of something bigger.

In mental health, as in life, meaningful change doesn't happen in isolation. It happens through connection, collaboration, and recognising that every individual contribution matters.

We left with a beautiful piece of artwork that reflects who we are as a team. 💚

Continuing professional development is a key part of how we support our team and the young people and families we work with.

Yesterday, some of our team took part in TAR3 Psychological First Aid training with our Clinical Director, Dr Stephen Spencer (PhD), strengthening their skills in supporting young people in crisis and working collaboratively with families to develop practical, evidence-based support plans.

We are committed to ongoing learning to ensure our clinical work is grounded in best practice. If you’d like to learn more about how our team can support you, feel free to get in touch! We'd love to hear from you.
