12 hours. 16. 18. 24.

I start somewhere else.

Before I'd talk to anyone about extending a fasting window, I want to know how her body is coping with the life she's already asking it to manage.

How are you sleepingโ€ฆ properly, not "fine"?

How stable is your energy across a day?

How reactive are you to stress lately?

How quickly do you recover when something goes wrong?

Are you hungry in a way that food doesn't settle?

Those answers tell me far more than a number on a clock ever will.

Because two women can follow the exact same fasting schedule and have completely opposite experiences, and the difference usually isn't discipline. It's what their body was already carrying when they started.

There is no prize for pushing a body through a protocol it isn't ready for.

Stabilise first. Build some resilience. Then introduce fasting strategically.

The order matters.

Answer one of those five questions honestly in the comments. Whichever one made you pause, then that's usually the one worth looking at.

You don't say "I'm tired." You've learned that word gets you a sympathetic nod and a suggestion to go to bed earlier.๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝYou say: I sleep eight hours and wake up like I've been awake all night.๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝAnd instead of "have you tried magnesium," they say: right โ€” how long has that been going on?๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝThat's it. That's the whole feeling.๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝNot being fixed. Not being given a supplement. Just being taken seriously the first time you say it.๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝIf you've had that moment, tell me who gave it to you. And if you're still waiting for it โ€” I promise it exists.

There's a pattern I see constantly, and it's an easy one to miss because it looks like the opposite of what it is.

A woman is doing more than ever. More discipline, more structure, more protocols. And she's getting less back from her body every month.

Then she concludes she needs to try harder. Which is precisely the wrong direction.
Four signs a body is asking for less, not more:

You feel worse after the workout, not better. Not tired-satisfied โ€” wiped out, for a day or two.

You're wired at night and flattened in the morning. Your energy has inverted itself.

Every new protocol works for about a fortnight. Then it stops, and you assume you did it wrong.

You're hungry in a way food doesn't settle. Often a signal about stress and blood sugar, not appetite.

None of these are diagnostic. They're patterns worth noticing.

If two or more sound familiar, I'd gently suggest the next thing to add isn't a thing at all.

What's one demand you could take off your body this week?

Name it in the comments - writing it down makes it about ten times more likely to happen.

Fasting is a biological stressor.

That isn't a criticism of fasting. I use it, I teach it, and it can be a genuinely useful tool.

But a stressor is a stressor. And whether it helps or harms depends almost entirely on what your body is already carrying when you introduce it.

I've spoken with women who did everything correctly. Right timing. Electrolytes. Careful preparation. And they still ended up with racing thoughts at 2am, broken sleep, anxiety they couldn't explain, or exhaustion that lasted days.

Almost every one of them reached the same conclusion: I need more discipline.

I'd offer a different one.

If your nervous system is already running a heavy load, adding another demand may not produce the response you were hoping for. Not because you're weak. Because your body is already at capacity.

This is why I teach regulation before restriction.

The question was never "how long can I fast?"

It's "is my body ready for this right now?"

If that's landed, comment RESET and I'll send you the 5-Minute CALM Reset โ€” the smallest place I know to start. I'll personally reply to the first ten people with a note on where I'd begin, based on what you tell me.

Owning four different sizes of the same trousers and knowing exactly which morning calls for which.

Walking into a room with total purpose and then standing there, completely certain that you had a reason, waiting for it to come back.

Being simultaneously the most capable person in your family and one bad night's sleep away from cancelling everything.

Knowing precisely which foods tomorrow-you is going to be furious about, and eating them anyway.

Saying "I'm fine" so automatically that you've stopped checking whether it's accurate.

None of this is a character flaw. It's what it looks like to live in a body that keeps changing the rules on you.

Which one made you laugh because it's a bit too accurate?

Have you ever noticed that the harder you try NOT to eat something, the louder the craving seems to become?

For years, weโ€™ve been taught to treat cravings as a lack of willpower.

"I just need more discipline."
"I need to stop snacking."
"Why canโ€™t I control myself?"

But there can be so much more going on beneath the surface.
Cravings can be influenced by blood sugar fluctuations, stress, poor sleep, hormones, learned food cues, how much protein youโ€™re eating and sometimes nutritional needs too.

So rather than fighting your body, Iโ€™d much rather we become curious about what it might be trying to tell us. ๐ŸŒฟ

๐Ÿ“ Craving sugar?
Take a look at what youโ€™ve eaten throughout the day. If your blood sugar has been riding a rollercoaster, your body may naturally start looking for quick energy.

Adding protein, fibre and whole food carbohydrates to your meals can help create greater stability and keep you feeling satisfied for longer.

๐Ÿซ Craving chocolate?
Magnesium often gets mentioned here, and foods such as pumpkin seeds, leafy greens and unsweetened cacao are beautiful whole food sources.

But stress, habit, emotions and the simple pleasure associated with chocolate can play a role too.

๐Ÿซ’ Craving salty foods?
Think hydration and electrolytes, particularly if youโ€™ve been exercising, sweating or fasting.

And sometimes we simply want the crunch, salt and satisfaction. Thatโ€™s worth acknowledging too.

๐Ÿฅ‘ Craving rich or oily foods?
Ask yourself whether your meals are genuinely satisfying you.
Healthy fats, adequate protein and nourishing whole foods can make an enormous difference to satiety.

๐Ÿฅš Craving carbs, especially around 3pm?
This is such a common one.
If breakfast and lunch havenโ€™t provided enough protein, fibre and nourishment, that afternoon pull towards something quick and carby can feel incredibly strong.
And this is the part I really want women to hear.

Your body isnโ€™t the enemy.
A craving doesnโ€™t mean youโ€™ve failed.
It doesnโ€™t automatically mean you need more willpower.

Sometimes itโ€™s simply information.
Next time a craving appears, instead of immediately fighting it, try asking yourself:

"What does my body actually need right now?"

Is it food?
Water?
Protein?
Rest?
Better sleep?
Movement?
Fresh air?

Or perhaps a few quiet minutes to CALM your nervous system?
That simple pause begins to change the conversation youโ€™re having with your body.

The more we learn to understand our bodyโ€™s signals, the less we need to battle against them.

Your body is communicating with you all the time.

The goal isnโ€™t to silence it. Itโ€™s to learn how to listen. ๐Ÿ’š

Save the graphic above for the next time a craving hits.

๐ŸŒฟ And if youโ€™d like to learn how to support your body while introducing fasting gently and sustainably, comment CALM below and Iโ€™ll send you my FREE CALM Fast Starter Kit.

Somewhere along the way, "๐ˆ'๐ฆ ๐ž๐ฑ๐ก๐š๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐" got translated into "๐ˆ'๐ฆ ๐ง๐จ๐ญ ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฒ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ก๐š๐ซ๐ ๐ž๐ง๐จ๐ฎ๐ ๐ก."

I'd like to untangle that.

Discipline is doing the thing even when you don't feel like it. Most of the women I speak with have more of it than they give themselves credit for.

They've done the elimination diets.
They've been up at 5am.
They've stuck with protocols that made them feel worse for weeks.

An overloaded body is a different situation entirely. When your system is already managing more than it can comfortably carry, adding another demand doesn't create progress. ๐ˆ๐ญ ๐œ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ฌ ๐ฆ๐จ๐ซ๐ž ๐ฅ๐จ๐š๐. ๐Ÿคช

So before you add the next thing, the next supplement, the longer fast, the harder workout... try asking

I've watched so many women hear that and walk out feeling worse than when they walked in.

Because now there's nothing to point at. No line on a page. Nothing that explains why you're exhausted in a way that sleep doesn't fix.

Here's what I'd offer you.

A blood panel is very good at catching disease. It was never designed to measure how well your body is coping with the load it's carrying, the stress, the poor sleep, the years of pushing through.

So you can be told everything is normal and still be right that something is off.

Both things are true at the same time.
