A lot of the clients who come to me struggle to connect with their emotions.

When someone can’t access their emotions, I find it’s usually one of a few things.

1️⃣ Emotions were labelled growing up - the “good” ones were welcome, the “bad” ones were something to push through or get over. “Put your big girl pants on”

2️⃣ Staying busy became its own way of not having to feel. If you’re always moving, you never have to sit with it.

3️⃣ The nervous system has spent so long in survival mode that shutting down became the safest option. Not a choice. Just what the body learned to do to protect you.

4️⃣ They’ve spent so long living in their head that feeling anything in the body just doesn’t come naturally anymore.

The thing is, you can’t think your way through something that needs to be felt.

And building that mind body connection can take time.

Everyone’s relationship with their emotions is shaped by their own unique experiences, which means the pathway back to them is unique too.

I help women come back into their body so they can reconnect with themselves. Because when you can feel again everything changes in the most amazing way 💛🌼

I want to use a recent client as an example, because her story is one I see reflected in so many of the women I work with.

She came to me with her house sitting on the market longer than she’d anticipated, running multiple businesses that were doing okay but not quite where she wanted them to be. She was doing all the things, she had all the strategy, but she was feeling really overwhelmed with where things were at.

When she came to me, we didn’t work on her strategy. We worked on her nervous system, her energy, the internal state she had been carrying through all of it.

I’m not going to take credit for what shifted in her life. But I do believe the work created the conditions for things to start moving. Things with the house settled. Her businesses picked up.

When your nervous system settles and your energy changes, you show up differently. You stop doing things from a place of urgency or fear and start doing them from somewhere really grounded. And that ripple effect impacts everything around you.

You don’t need a new strategy. You need to change your energy…. and no I don’t mean that in a ‘just think positive’ kind of way.

We’re so quick to try and get back to who we were, or rush toward who we think we should be.

But what if the work is actually in learning to sit in it. Building the capacity to be here, in this, without needing it to look different.

You are exactly where you’re meant to be.

The kids still need to get to school. The extracurriculars still need to happen. The bills still need to be paid. The work still needs to get done and unfortunately the mental load doesn’t stop just because you’re exhausted.

When your nervous system has been running at capacity for so long, even the smallest things start to feel impossible.

You snap, you cry in the car, you fall into bed wired but exhausted and wonder how on earth you’re going to do it all again tomorrow.

Yet somehow you do…just 🫠

The good news is the nervous system is adaptable. You can’t always change how full your plate is, but you can change your capacity to hold it.

That’s where we start.

When you’re hurt by someone, it’s natural to want answers.

You find yourself trying to understand why they did it, what you could have done differently, how to make them see what they caused.

You get caught up trying to prove you’re good, lovable, worthy of an apology.

But in doing so, you’re chasing the snake.

You’re pouring your energy into them. Into their behaviour, their choices, their perception. Instead of tending to the wound you’re actually carrying.

The snakebite isn’t really about the snake.

It’s about the poison it leaves behind. And that poison might look like shame, grief, anger, or resentment sitting in your body long after the moment has passed.

If you keep chasing the snake you miss the chance to tend to you. To pause. To feel. To actually process what’s there.

Stop chasing the snake.

Start tending to the poison.

That’s where you need your own energy right now.
