September is PMOS Awareness Month. PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, formerly known as PCOS, polycystic ovarian syndrome) affects an estimated 8 to 13% of women of reproductive age and remains one of the more common causes of subfertility. Symptoms vary widely, from irregular cycles to changes in weight or skin, which is why treatment starts with understanding how it presents for you specifically. Dr George has been helping patients navigate PMOS/PCOS for over 25 years.

We're happy to look a little silly for a cause this important!

Every day in Australia, around 6 babies are stillborn and 2 die within their first 28 days of life. Every August, Red Nose Day gives us a chance to remember those families and support the research and care Red Nose Australia provides into SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) and SUDI (sudden unexplained death in infancy).

Infertility affects around 1 in 6 Australians trying to conceive. Not all fertility cases require IVF.

Depending on your diagnosis, Dr George may recommend cycle monitoring, ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination (IUI) or surgical treatment for conditions such as endometriosis or fibroids as a first step. A thorough assessment will determine the most appropriate pathway for your individual situation.

Not every gynaecological procedure needs a hospital stay. Some are managed directly in our rooms at Nucleus Medical Suites, including colposcopy and LLETZ procedures, treatment of vulval skin conditions and lesions, ultrasounds, hormonal implants and IUCD insertion and removal.

Others need the facilities at Buderim Private Hospital, including laparoscopic surgery, hysterectomy, hysteroscopy, endometrial ablation, endometriosis surgery and pelvic organ prolapse repair.

New patients need a GP referral to make an appointment. Find out more about Dr George’s gynaecological care on our website.

This week is Chronic Pain Week. For many women with endometriosis or ongoing pelvic pain, that pain is a daily reality other people do not see.

Pelvic pain is far more common than most people realise. The 2023 National Women's Health Survey found nearly half of Australian women had experienced pelvic pain in the previous five years. Half of them never talked to a doctor about it.

Pain that stops you doing normal daily things is not something you have to accept and it is not something you have to sort out on your own. Endometriosis is one of the more common causes. It affects around 1 in 7 Australian women and can take years to diagnose.

Managing ongoing pelvic pain usually works best with a team around you. Alongside medical and surgical care, that can include physiotherapy, support with sleep and gut health, psychological support and pain education. The aim is to treat the whole person, not just one symptom.

If pelvic pain is affecting your life, talk to your GP. A referral to Dr George is the first step.

Good gynaecological care does not stop at the consulting room. Dr George works closely with the team at The Pelvic Health Physio so patients get connected, whole-person support.

Pelvic floor physiotherapy plays an important role in managing a wide range of conditions and is often recommended alongside surgical or medical treatment.

For women living with pelvic pain, the physio team provides thorough, sensitive assessment and personalised treatment for conditions including endometriosis, painful in*******se, bladder pain and chronic pelvic pain. Treatment can involve gentle hands-on therapy, pelvic floor relaxation and breathing techniques, movement rehabilitation and education to help you understand and manage your pain.

If Dr George has recommended surgery, pelvic floor physiotherapy can support both your preparation and your recovery. Beforehand the team can help you feel informed and ready. Afterwards they work within Dr George's guidelines to support your healing and guide you back to movement at a pace that is right for you.

Booking a first fertility appointment can feel like a big step. Knowing what to expect makes it easier.

On your first visit Dr George takes a detailed history and talks through your concerns. For many patients the initial investigations include hormone testing and an ultrasound. You are encouraged to ask questions and there is no pressure to make decisions on the day.

Once the initial results are back, you and Dr George work out a plan together. As part of the Monash IVF Sunshine Coast team, he can talk you through the full range of options, from cycle monitoring and ovulation induction through to IVF, IUI and fertility preservation.

Fertility care works best when you are an active partner in it. Dr George stays involved through each stage, adjusting the plan as you go and keeping your GP informed.

A GP referral is required for both parties involved. Once you have these, call the practice to book.

Perimenopause affects every woman differently. Some notice a lot, some notice very little. Around 1 in 2 women report mild to moderate symptoms, around 1 in 4 have symptoms severe enough to affect daily life and around 1 in 4 have few or none at all.

The symptoms trace back to fluctuating hormones and they are not always the ones people expect. Commonly reported ones include:
- hot flushes and night sweats
- brain fog and trouble sleeping
- low mood, mood changes or anxiety
- joint and muscle pain
- vaginal dryness or bladder changes
- changes in weight or body shape

You do not have to push through it or manage on your own. Information, support and treatment options are there if you need them.

If perimenopause is affecting your daily life, talk to your GP. A referral to Dr George is one way to get a clear picture and a plan that suits you.

Your first appointment with Dr George typically involves a detailed medical history, a discussion of your symptoms or concerns and a clear explanation of what investigations or next steps are recommended.

You're encouraged to ask questions. There's no pressure to make immediate decisions about treatment.

For fertility patients, the initial investigations might include testing or an ultrasound. For gynaecology patients, it depends on your presenting concern.

A GP referral is required. Once you have one, call the practice to book.
