June is Cataract Awareness Month.
Cataracts occur when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy. This can be associated with blurred vision, increased sensitivity to light and reduced clarity over time.

These changes often develop gradually, which is why they may not be immediately noticeable.

Factors such as age, family history and existing health conditions are associated with a higher likelihood of developing cataracts. Most of us will develop cataracts with the passage of time. Surgical removal of the cloudy lens (and replacement with an intra-ocular lens) is indicated when vision is adversely affected.

Regular eye examinations are an important part of monitoring eye health.
