Any of us can become defensive, remember events differently or struggle to listen when we feel hurt.
The red flag isnāt one difficult conversation.
The red flag is a repeated pattern in which one personās feelings consistently matter more, accountability rarely happens, and the other person begins walking on eggshells.
Healthy communication doesnāt mean never becoming upset or getting it wrong. It means being able to return, reflect, take responsibility and make room for another personās experience - even when it is uncomfortable.
Pay attention not only to what someone says during conflict, but to what happens when you tell them they have hurt you, this will inform your safety in the relationship.
