Appreciation post for my incredible staff ❤️

These wonderful ladies of Town and Country Orthopaedics will be the first smiling faces you see as you come in the door, and the last people waving at you as you leave after your care has finished.

My team works tirelessly on the phones, emails, and face-to-face to make your experience as comfortable, helpful, and easy as possible.

Hip and Knee Replacement surgery is already a daunting enough task, we ensure that being accessible and available is never a problem.

Proud to be who I am.

This NAIDOC Week, we are privileged to share some deeply meaningful reflections from our own Orthopaedic Surgeon, Associate Professor Anthony Murray. 🖤💛❤️

To Anthony, the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week is an important milestone to recognise decades of advocacy, cultural pride, and community leadership, while also reflecting on the work still left to do.

"Celebration is of course important, but I also encourage reflection," Anthony says. "Whilst we can acknowledge many challenges facing Indigenous communities today, of particular importance to me is the ongoing health inequality that I, and my peers, work towards reshaping for the future."

Anthony believes strongly that representation is key to closing this gap. More Indigenous doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals build deeper trust and help create a healthcare system that is culturally safe and equitable for everyone.

To the next generation of First Nations youth, his message is clear: "Never underestimate the impact that you can have. Your journey may inspire others, your history, knowledge, resilience and your voice are built on your experience. Believe in your potential, you may just change lives, including your own."

Whilst living in regional, rural and remote areas can often mean long travel trips for simple appointments - to our friends, family and patients from far and wide - we offer secure videoconference services, to make pre and post operative appointments so much simpler 🖥️ ☎️

For me - growing up in Rocky in the late 80s and early 90s always meant those long road trips to Brisbane for subspecialist care. And we were always happy to do it as we knew it was needed.

If distance has held you back, think again 🤔

Morning coffee run! ☕️

I’ve copped some flack for this one! Even on my day off, I’ll wear scrub pants. And the peanut gallery has absolutely given it to me - so I’ll open it up for a yes or no from the crowd here - has the big fella committed a fashion faux pas?

I will openly admit I took a (albeit clean) pair on holiday to NZ 2 years ago and wore them quite a bit 😂 Maybe I miss operating so much I like a little bit of theatre with me when I’m away! 😂

Whilst this can sometimes feel like what you need - especially first thing in the morning ☀️ our body naturally does this in response to arthritis!

It tries to lubricate the surfaces in response to the bone rubbing against bone, and problems within the knee. 🦴

But unfortunately all evidence and literature for lubricating injections is uniform in its conclusion - there is no long term benefit.
This includes things people commonly come and ask me (and why I do not offer them to my patients) hyaluronic acid aka synvisc, monovisc, durolane or lubricating injections etc.
These injections - whilst they might sound great, do nothing to address the degenerative changes and are exorbitant in their costs 💉💰

So don’t waste $$$’s on these and other pseudoscientific “treatments” - speak to your sub-specialist surgeon about ‘what does the evidence actually show’ for treatment!

Myself and the team from Bundaberg Physiotherapy Centre & Sports Injury Clinic had a great presentation on Saturday morning - from the team running a mini arthritis class in the golf club, to Neil’s examples of the various styles of walking, good times were had by all!
