Your stress might be affecting your skin in ways you can’t see.

We often talk about stress and breakouts as simply:

stress → cortisol → more oil → pimples.

But there’s a much more interesting story happening underneath.

Your skin has its own ecosystem — a community of microorganisms that live on your skin and interact with your skin barrier and immune system.

When you’re chronically stressed, your body’s stress response doesn’t just affect your mood. Stress hormones can influence the skin’s barrier, immune activity and the environment your skin microbiome lives in.

A healthy skin barrier helps keep water in, irritants out and your microbial ecosystem in balance.

But stress can weaken that barrier, increase water loss and alter immune signalling. That can change the conditions your skin microbes are living in — potentially contributing to dysbiosis, inflammation and increased skin reactivity.

So for a long time I have wanted to give my oxygen treatment bottle a face lift - They come pretty damaged.

So I finally got some material and put my sewing skills to the test and created a little sack to go around the bottle, to hide the marks. Go me! (I thank Wendy and my year 12 sewing teacher for these skills - probably the extent of my skill base, besides hemming pants 😂)

Anyway, you are probably thinking why on earth do I have an oxygen bottle in clinic??
