💛 Happy World Breastfeeding Week! 💛
This week is a chance to celebrate every breastfeeding journey—because while breastfeeding is natural, it isn’t always easy.
Do you want to know why I created Ask Emma?
I’ve had three breastfeeding journeys, and they couldn’t have been more different.
With my first baby, all I wanted to do was breastfeed. Despite every effort, he simply wouldn’t latch. It was heartbreaking. Through many tears, determination and support, I was able to relactate and exclusively express breast milk for him until he was 14 months old.
My second breastfeeding journey was completely different. We breastfed beyond two years with very few challenges and I was able to donate the milk bank at RBWH.
Then came my third. I found myself working hard to keep him interested in breastfeeding, and our journey came to an end just prior to 12 months.
Three babies.
One mum.
Three completely different breastfeeding journeys.
Those experiences taught me something I’ll never forget: every baby is different, every parent is different, and every feeding journey is unique. Just because one journey looked a certain way doesn’t mean the next one would.
That’s why I’m so passionate about supporting families without judgement. Whether your baby breastfeeds for one feed, one month, one year or beyond, exclusively receives expressed breast milk, donor milk, formula or a combination of these, your journey matters.
This World Breastfeeding Week, I’m celebrating every parent who has loved, nourished and cared for their baby through the highs, the lows and everything in between.
Be kind to yourself. You are doing better than you think.
