The Pregnancy Collective

The Pregnancy Collective Midwife, Hypnobirthing & Childbirth educator offering private one-to-one, group & online sessions to Gold Coast & Northern Rivers. About Kate.

Passionate about collaborative care, informed choices," empowering couples to approach birth with confidence & calm.” Hypnobirthing is based on the philosophy that childbirth is a normal and natural event and firmly believes that birthing should be a rewarding, relaxing and stress free experience where babies come into this world in a atmosphere of gentility, calmness and joy. Through a well thoug

ht out program of deep relaxation, self hypnosis, special breathing techniques, visualization, affirmations and education hypnobirthing returns to a woman the art of birthing in a way that allows her to summon her natural birthing instincts and birth her baby in safety and with ease. Hypnobirthing is based on the belief that severe discomfort does not need to be a natural accompaniment of birthing when a woman is properly prepared and trusts her birthing body. Hypnobirthing prepares the woman physically and mentally for the birth of her baby and prepares the partner/support person on how to work with you during labour to make your birth more comfortable, relaxing and stress free. HypnoBirthing teaches the woman and her partner how to achieve progressive relaxation. The couple will learn how to quickly enter relaxation and how to deepen the relaxation during the birthing process. When the woman is in a relaxed state she will be calm and relaxed and free to work with her body and baby the way nature intended. By the end of the course you and your partner will feel empowered, excited and ready for your birth. Your partner will feel confident in their role as your support person and the methods they can incorporate to get you into a deep state of relaxation quickly. The skills and methods that you learn to promote a calm and stress free labour and birth a life long skills that you take with you following the birth of your baby. Kate first competed her HypnoBirthing course in 2011 and since then has been helping Mothers and their partners to have the birth experience they desire. Kate is unique in that she is also a practising midwife and registered nurse on the Gold Coast and so fully understands all parts of the birthing experience. Kate is able to take you through all stages of pregnancy from antenatal care to your labour and beyond. Kate is extremely passionate about providing women centred care and about empowering women to achieve what ever their wishes are.

Pelvic floor preparation should be part of every antenatal education class. 🤍

One thing I hear again and again is that women have been told to “do their pelvic floor exercises”… but no one has actually shown them how to do them correctly.

And honestly, I think that’s a problem.

Understanding your pelvic floor, knowing how to correctly activate AND RELAX IT (so important for birth!!) and learning how it works throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum is such an important part of preparing for birth.

It’s why I make this part of my childbirth education classes, and why I also have a Women’s Health Physiotherapist join us during the program to help couples understand their pelvic floor properly and answer those questions that so often get missed in routine antenatal care.

Because preparing for birth isn’t just about learning about labour and birth — it’s about understanding your body, knowing your options and feeling genuinely prepared for what’s ahead.

If you’re pregnant and would love to learn all of this (and so much more), I’d love to have you join me in my next Childbirth Education Class. 🤍

Come and learn how to feel informed, confident and prepared for your birth and the transition into parenthood.

✨ Bookings are now open for my next class.

Reading messages like this never gets old.

Thank you so much, Willow, for taking the time to leave such a beautiful review. It means the world to know that even though we couldn’t meet in person, you and your partner still felt supported, informed and confident heading into your caesarean birth.

One of the things I’m most passionate about is making quality birth education accessible, whether that’s in one of my group classes, privately in your home, or online via Zoom. Every family deserves to feel prepared, heard and empowered to make informed decisions for their birth.

Thank you for trusting me to be a small part of your journey. 🤍

If you’re expecting a baby and wondering whether childbirth education is worth it, I’d love to support you too. Head to the link in my bio or send me a DM to learn more about my classes.

🌿 Your body is designed to move in labour.

One of the biggest misconceptions about birth is the image of lying on your back. In reality, movement and changing positions can make a huge difference.

Different positions can:
• Encourage your baby to move through the pelvis more effectively.
• Support comfort and help you work with your contractions.
• Create more space within the pelvis.
• Reduce pressure on your back.
• Help you feel more in control throughout labour.

There isn’t one “perfect” position for every woman. But there are positions that encourage a wider pelvis, optimal positioning for baby and decrease tearing for birth. The best position is the one that feels right for you in that moment, and knowing lots of options before labour gives you the confidence to adapt as your body and baby guide you.

✨ This is one of the many practical skills we cover in my childbirth education classes. We spend time learning and practising optimal positions for labour and birth, so you and your birth partner know how to work with your body, not against it.

Preparing for birth isn’t just about knowing what happens—it’s about knowing what you can do to support the process. 💛
“Save this post for later and send it to your birth partner.”

We spend so much time preparing for the arrival of a baby… but how often do we prepare men for one of the biggest transitions of their lives?

Birth is a rite of passage for both parents.

When partners understand birth, they don’t just become better support people—they become calmer, more connected and more confident as they step into fatherhood.

This is why my classes are always for couples, not just the birthing woman.

Because birth is something you’ll remember for the rest of your lives, and I want you to walk into it together. 💛
Shout out to new parents Jessica Goninan and Macenzie. Thankyou for the honour of being part of your journey

This beautiful gathering, lovingly organised by Kate Kate Martyn- Midwife, HypnoBirthing and Childbirth Educator and held in the gorgeous space at Matrescence Birthing Centres Southport, was such a nourishing reminder of the importance of community.

It offered a much-needed sacred space for birth professionals to pause, debrief, reconnect and refill our own cups. Surrounded by this incredible village of woman-centred practitioners; from midwives and women’s health physios to yoga teachers, doulas, counsellors and fertility specialists, I was reminded how deeply these women care.

Each of them is devoted to walking alongside women through one of life’s greatest transitions, offering compassionate, evidence-informed and truly woman-centred support to mothers and mothers-to-be. It is an honour to be part of a community so committed to holding women well. 🤍
