Just because a young athlete can do it, doesn’t mean it’s appropriate.

Children are remarkably capable, but good coaching and parenting isn’t about finding their limits as early as possible.

It’s about giving them the best chance to stay healthy, keep enjoying sport, and reach their potential over the long term (LTAD).

Guidelines exist for a reason. We should be normalising athlete development, not extreme performances from children.

Squad had a strong day out at the Tasmanian All Schools Cross Country Championships.

It was great to see athletes challenging themselves in different ways. In particular, a number of our sprinters stepped up to compete in an event far removed from their preferred distances, where it’s more about being part of the team, participating, embracing a challenge, having a crack and gaining valuable experience.

We had 3 athletes on the podium including Ash who I think made it a perfect 6 from 6, winning state all schools XC every year of her high school era.

Five members of the squad made the trip to Brisbane to take on the best junior athletes in the country.

The girls stepped up and competed strongly across the board, gaining valuable experience for future seasons. It was impressive to see how they handled the pressure of the national stage and adapted to a few challenges along the way.

Expressions of Interest – 2026 All Schools XC 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Taking EOI for our 7-week cross country training program leading into the Tasmanian All Schools Cross Country (June 11th, 2026).

This program is for high school-aged athletes who are keen to improve their distance running, compete, and be part of a supportive squad environment.

Program details:
📅 7-week program beginning April 23rd
💰 $25 per week
🏃‍♂️ 2–3 squad sessions per week + additional training prescribed on an individual basis to support your development
📍 Location: Somerset, Burnie & surrounding areas
⌚️Tues/Thur 3:50pm (45-60min) + Sat TBC

Athlete expectations:
• Able to train 3–4 days per week
• Have access to a suitable running watch
• Willing to be consistent and coachable

If you’re looking to perform your best this is a great opportunity to prepare properly and take your running to the next level.
