This September is Dementia Awareness month.
Did you know an estimated 1.7 million people in Australia are involved in the care of someone living with dementia.
2 in 3 people with dementia are thought to be living in the community.

Hospice Care NW have Volunteers who are experienced with visiting people with Dementia and giving respite to the Carer.

Did you know September is Dementia Awareness month?
The message for this year - the earlier you know, the more you can do.
There is a very valuable FREE resource available to help us learn what we can do to reduce the risk of getting Dementia.

Self paced, open at any time of the day, no closing date and takes only 8 hours that can be spread out as much as needed.

This course is aimed at the general public because:

Dementia is the leading cause of death for Australians.

In 2026 there are an estimated 446,500 Australians living with dementia.

Without a significant intervention, the number of Australians living with dementia is expected to increase to more than 1 million by 2065.

It might surprise you as to what can contribute to getting Dementia.

We are delighted to share the exciting news that one of our wonderful Volunteers, Joan White has been selected as a finalist in the 2026 Tasmanian Palliative Care Awards under the category - Outstanding Achievement in Volunteering and Carer Support.

Congratulations Joan, being named a finalist is a great achievement and a well-deserved recognition of the care, compassion and commitment you bring to Tasmania’s palliative care community.

Your contribution makes a meaningful difference in the lives of others, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to recognise and celebrate you. The winners will be announced at the Awards Presentation.
