A great morning spent with Maggie-Lee Huckabee and Ella Waswo from the BiSSkApp/Swallowing Technologies team! 👏

It was fantastic to catch up, share ideas, and learn more about how technology continues to support evidence-based dysphagia management and improve clinical practice.

During their visit, they also introduced us to the new BiSSkApp Clinician Portal, a valuable resource designed to help Speech Pathologists build their knowledge, develop confidence, and get the most out of using the BiSSkApp in clinical practice.

Thank you for visiting our clinic. We always value opportunities to collaborate with others who are passionate about advancing care for people with swallowing difficulties. 💙

Ever heard of Vocal Cord Dysfunction (VCD), also known as Inducible Laryngeal Obstruction (ILO)? 🗣️

It can look a lot like asthma… but it’s actually the vocal folds or other parts of the throat that move in reducing airway space when they shouldn’t. Up to 30% of people diagnosed with severe asthma may actually have VCD/ILO!

The good news? With the right assessment and therapy, it’s very treatable 💙
Keep watching to find out more!

Did you know these facts about dysphagia? 💙

Although Dysphagia Awareness Month has come to an end, raising awareness about dysphagia is important all year round.

Recognising the signs and seeking the right support can make a meaningful difference to a person's health, safety, and quality of life.

If you or someone you know is experiencing swallowing difficulties, we're here to help.

Every voice deserves to be heard. 💬

Communication looks different for everyone, and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) can help people share their thoughts, ideas, wants, and needs in a way that works best for them.

Did you know that there is a technology that allows you to use in full function with the use of your eyes? In this video, Maddy is using the TD I-110 (Gen 2) with Eye-Gaze technology, allowing her to express herself through the movement of her eyes.

Ella is responding to Maddy using the TD Navio Midi, demonstrating another way AAC technology can support effective communication.

A huge thank you to Jess Assistive for providing us with the opportunity to trial these devices and continue expanding our knowledge of the ever-evolving AAC technologies available to support our clients.

We'd love to hear from you! Do you or a loved one use AAC? What has been your favourite communication tool or system? 💙

Celebrating NAIDOC Week 2026 🖤💛❤️

This NAIDOC Week, we proudly celebrate the history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year's theme, "50 Years of Deadly," recognises five decades of celebrating the strength, resilience, leadership and enduring contributions of First Nations peoples and communities. It honours the Elders, organisers, artists and advocates who have shaped the NAIDOC movement and continue to inspire future generations.

At Speak & Swallow Speech Therapy, we recognise that communication is a fundamental human right. We are committed to creating a culturally safe, respectful and inclusive environment where every person feels heard, valued and empowered.

This week, we encourage everyone to take the opportunity to listen, learn and celebrate the world's oldest continuing cultures, not just during NAIDOC Week, but throughout the year.

Happy NAIDOC Week. National NAIDOC

💙 🏹 We're standing with Jai this July.

This month, our team is proudly supporting the Hats for Jai campaign, and raising awareness of Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

MND is a progressive neurological condition that can affect movement, speech, communication and swallowing. As speech pathologists, we're privileged to support people living with MND by helping them maintain communication, manage swallowing changes and maximise quality of life throughout their journey.

We're standing with Jai Arrow, his family, and everyone affected by MND.

Purchase a virtual party hat for $11.66 (a nod to Jai Arrow's Rabbitohs player number, #1166), and help celebrate Jai's birthday on Sunday, 12 July! Every party hat purchased goes towards Jai Arrow and his family in their fight against Motor Neurone Disease.

If you'd like to support the campaign, please visit the link below.
