🌿 Finding the Glimmers – 30 Days of Gratitude
Day 16 Β· A Tradition

I have a few little traditions that I've collected over the years.

One of my favourites is making a baby blanket whenever someone I love is expecting a little one 🧢🀍

There's something really special about making something slowly, stitch by stitch, knowing that one day it will be wrapped around a tiny human who hasn't even arrived yet.

And then there's its journey. It might start out wrapped around a tiny newborn, but I always hope that it becomes one of those familiar little things they reach for when they're tired, cold, sad or just need some comfort as they grow older.

It's not a grand gesture.
It's just my little way of saying I was thinking of you.

I think that's what I love about traditions.
They don't have to be big or elaborate. Sometimes they're just small things we keep doing because they mean something to us.

And, my tradition is making blankets for babies I haven't even met yet. And if you tell me you're having a baby, there's a pretty good chance you're getting a blanket too πŸ˜…πŸ§ΆπŸ€

🌿 Finding the Glimmers – 30 Days of Gratitude
Day 15 Β· A Teacher

There are so many people who have taught me something along the way. But right now, two people immediately come to mind.

My mother-in-law has been a beautiful teacher lately. She's reminded me that sometimes we learn the most from the people who have walked a similar path before us 🀍

And my sister has been another kind of teacher, teaching me that sometimes you don't need someone to fix anything. Sometimes you just need someone who will listen, let you cry, make you laugh and sit beside you while you work things out.

I am incredibly grateful and blessed to have both of them in my circle.

Maybe that's one of the things I love about being a teacher myself.

We're never really done learning 🌿

🌿 Finding the Glimmers – 30 Days of Gratitude
Day 14 Β· A Memory

Some memories just make me smile the second I think of them.

This is me during my first ever long-distance walking event β€” The Bloody Long Walk πŸ˜‚

35km.

Because apparently I thought that sounded like a fun thing to do.

And yes... it was bloody long.

So bloody long, in fact, that somewhere around the 20km mark we stopped for ramen πŸ˜‚πŸœ

I don't remember every kilometre. I don't remember what we talked about or exactly how we got to the finish line.

But I remember this feeling.

Being outside. Doing something completely ridiculous. Laughing. Being tired. And somehow still having a really bloody good time.

Sometimes I think that's what memories are really good at.

Reminding us that there have been so many little moments of joy along the way, even when we didn't know we'd one day look back and be grateful for them.

And I'm very grateful that apparently my past self was the kind of person who would walk 35km and stop for ramen halfway πŸ˜‚πŸ€

Some things really are worth remembering.

🌿 Day 13 · A Conversation
Yesterday reminded me how much a safe conversation can matter.

Conversations have been a little challenging for me lately.

I'm learning that listening, being heard and finding the space between the two aren't always as easy as they sound.

Sometimes we don't need answers.
Sometimes we just need somewhere to put the words 🀍

But I'm grateful for the people who keep having the conversations with me.
Even the messy and frustrating ones 🀍

🌿 Finding the Glimmers – 30 Days of Gratitude
Day 12 ● A Kindness
Today I had absolutely nothing.

No grand act of kindness
No beautiful story
Just exhaustion

So perhaps today's kindness is a little closer to home.

Giving myself permission to not have to be ok, productive, positive or inspiring every single day.

Sometimes kindness is simply meeting yourself where you are.

And today, that's enough 🀍

🌿 Finding the Glimmers – 30 Days of Gratitude
Day 11 Β· Someone
Today I'm grateful for someone who happened to be in the right place at the right time.

After Park Yoga Sunday morning, I stopped to have another look around Heritage Park. One of my regulars happened to pop in too, after I'd mentioned the place at the end of class.

We ended up sitting and talking for about an hour. I didn't know I needed that conversation until I was in it.

In a day that has felt really heavy, that hour felt safe.

Sometimes the people who become our glimmers aren't the ones who set out to do anything extraordinary.
Sometimes they simply show up.
And sometimes, that's enough 🀍

🌿 Finding the Glimmers – 30 Days of Gratitude
Day 10 Β· Nature
Nature has always been a part of me.

Even as a kid, I've always been the one stopping to look at the sky, admire a tree, investigate a tiny flower or get completely distracted by a bug πŸ›

I grew up with a lot of access to nature, and my siblings and I were exploring bush and rainforest without an adult when we were kids.
We were either in the trees or up the trees πŸ˜‚

I think that's why nature has never really felt like somewhere I go.
It's somewhere I return to.

I found these old videos from a day I spent exploring this place a few years ago.
And now, after all this time, I really want to go back.

Maybe that's my glimmer today 🌿
The things that have always called to us don't necessarily stop calling just because life gets noisy.
