Harbison

Harbison Harbison is a community-owned, not-for-profit organisation in the Southern Highlands of NSW.

For over 65 years, we’ve supported people through every stage of life with trusted care, connection and wellbeing for all ages. Harbison is a community-owned not-for-profit approved aged care provider committed to safe and quality care services. We have two locations on the traditional lands of the Gundungarra people, at Moss Vale and Burradoo (Bowral), in the Southern Highlands of NSW. We offer t

he full range of care and lifestyle services to support older people as their needs change. This includes a range of aged care accommodation: specialised dementia care, respite care, residential care, home care, palliative care and NDIS. In 1956, Harbison was established in the Southern Highlands by a group of volunteers who recognised a high, local need for aged care services. After more than sixty years, we remain dedicated to serving the local community and are a thriving organisation, employing over 350 staff. We are proud of the history we have in this beautiful area and with the generations who live here. We truly believe we offer the best place to grow old in the Southern Highlands.

What a way to close out the Motiview Winter Kickoff Competition 👏❄️

Over the past week, our residents and team members have shown incredible determination, energy and spirit as part of our first Winter Kickoff competition, riding alongside teams from across Australia and our wonderful friends in Japan.

From the excitement of the daily rides, to encouragement and friendly rivalry shared throughout the competition, the atmosphere has been something special. Every kilometre ridden represented dedication, teamwork and the joy of staying active together.

The Harbison Slow Speed Demons were crowned champions with a combined effort of 2700km cycled during the competition! Individual honours went to Nellie with 390km, Norma with 163km, James with 98km and Harold with 130km ridden.

Thank you to our residents, staff, supporters and international partners for making the Motiview Winter Kickoff Competition such a memorable journey. Bring on Road Worlds! 🚴✨

What began as a simple idea in our Men’s Group back in 2023 has grown into something truly special. 🚂

Over nearly three years, residents, volunteers and visiting students have come together each Friday to build this incredible model railway from the ground up.

From Mal helping map the original track layout and donating a locomotive, to volunteers Angus and Michael helping bring the vision to life, this project has become so much more than scenery and trains.

It’s a story of friendship, purpose and legacy 💙

Residents like Allan found joy and purpose as the project’s dedicated “Stationmaster”, proudly earning his official Class 2 Locomotive Driver certificate, while Reg’s incredible contribution lives on through “Mount Reg”, a lasting tribute to his passion and dedication.

And every Friday, residents continue showing up with creativity, determination and heart.

More than a model railway, this project is a reminder that purpose, connection and community can be found at every stage of life.

🌏🌿 Today is World Environment Day, and we are always exploring new ways Harbison can continue building a more sustainable future for our community.

Recently, members of our team visited the impressive Burradoo Park Farm to gain inspiration and explore practical ways we can continue building a more sustainable future across our organisation and wider community.

The visit provided valuable insight into innovative and achievable sustainability practices, particularly within kitchen and food services. From meal preparation and kitchen gardens to reducing food waste and creating more mindful systems, the team returned with plenty of ideas to explore and develop further at Harbison.

These initiatives are not only about sustainability, they’re also about enhancing everyday life for our residents. Creating fresh, thoughtful food experiences, encouraging connection to gardens and nature, and finding smarter ways to care for our environment all contribute to a healthier, more enriching community for everyone.

We’re excited to see these ideas evolve into meaningful projects that support both our residents and the future of Harbison and the community 🌱

Last week our wonderful People & Culture team had the pleasure of attending the Oxley College careers day, connecting with students and sharing the many rewarding pathways within our industry.

From clinical and care roles to hospitality, administration, lifestyle, maintenance and beyond, it was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the wide variety of careers and growth opportunities available at Harbison.

It was great to see the students curiosity, questions and interest in learning more about the industry and how we do aged care differently.

At Harbison, we believe that supporting and investing in our staff through education, development and individual growth directly contributes to the exceptional care and experiences we provide for our residents every day.

Through initiatives such as our Harbison Leadership Development Program, we are committed to creating opportunities for our team to continue learning, growing and building meaningful careers within the sector.

Thank you to Oxley College for having us, we are proud to help inspire the next generation to consider a meaningful and fulfilling career in aged care 😎

Also in attendance were our partners UOW: University of Wollongong, Australia TAFE NSW Workplace Learning which was great to see!
