Welcome to Sophie!

If you’ve been in clinic the past few months you would have seen Sophie’s smiling face around, fresh off the plane from England ✈️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Sophie is passionate about neurological rehabilitation. With experience of working with a range of neurological conditions in the National Health Service in England.

Sophie enjoys helping improve clients quality of life, confidence and independence and acknowledges that small wins make a big impact.

Making lifting weights accessible 🏋🏻‍♀️ We know that lifting heavy weights 2-3 times a week is the best way to improve bone health and actively reverse loss of bone density and is realllllly important especially for older women 🦴 But what if you’ve had a neurological injury, how do you do that squat or deadlift? And which exercises do you do and how much weight and how do you progress the exercise... That’s where we are here to help, modifying ‘traditional’ exercises to make it accessible and appropriate for all. Just because the exercise technique doesn’t quite look the same, doesn’t mean it’s not beneficial, lets get lifting

Welcome to Sasha!

Sasha is a physiotherapist with a special interest in complex chronic conditions, autonomic dysfunction such as POTS, hypermobility, and neurodegenerative conditions including Parkinson’s disease.

She takes a trauma-informed, compassionate approach, integrating nervous system regulation and clinical Pilates to help people rebuild confidence in movement and achieve sustainable progress.

What do we do in a Neuro Physio clinic? Well that depends entirely on the client, their goals and their impairments…

Inspired by .cait we thought we’d show you what was on the camera roll over the past week 🧠📸

1. Split RDL with a yoga block to support the back leg, targeting hamstrings and glut strength and single leg balance of the front leg.
2. Prone standing, facilitating backward stepping + mobilisation of the foot and ankle through toe-off phase of gait
3. Thera-tubing to assist hip flexion and dorsiflexion through swing phase + over the contralateral trunk to assist weight shift as inspired by
4. More dynamic tape experimentation to facilitate awareness of dorsiflexion and eversion through swing phase and heel strike
5. Moving from kneeling to half kneeling without support, targeting postural alignment and balance over unaffected limb and selective movement of the affected limb

Everyone left feeling very inspired 🏋🏻‍♀️🏆. What is a cough assist machine?

An at home, non-invasive tool that works by simulating a natural cough, it assists people to clear secretions that are otherwise unable to produce an effective cough due to muscle weakness or neurological conditions.

It uses a face mask to apply a positive airway pressure to inflate the lungs which is quickly followed by a negative pressure to suck secretions out.

Who is it for?

A cough assist machine can benefit anyone that is unable to generate a sufficient cough to clear secretions. At Neuro Logic, we assist in trialling and prescribing a cough assist machine for clients with neuromuscular weakness seen in conditions such as:

- Muscular Dystrophy
- Motor Neurone Disease
- Spinal Cord Injury
- Multiple Sclerosis

In these populations, when a cough assist machine is indicated and used regularly, it can reduce the risk of chest infections, reduce respiratory related hospital admissions and maintain lung health.

Your Physio is able to assess your cough and respiratory health and work with you to determine if a cough assist machine might be right for you. If you feel this might be relevant to you, please have a chat to your therapist or give us a call on 0403 842 229 to discuss.

A huge, belated congratulations to one of our Neuro Logic OG’s, Iain, who was part of the winning team in the recent National Para Football Championships. WA will bring home the trophy for the first time in the Championships 17 year history after winning the gold medal match decided in penalties. Iain was also awarded the Player of the Tournament in the FT1 Classification. Congratulations to Iain and all of Football West for their historic win! 🏆⚽️

It can be tricky to get sufficient intensity of exercise to improve cardiovascular fitness in clients with neurological impairment. We’re loving adapting the ergo to meet different needs - sitting on a standard chair, feet supported on the floor, using a grip support like ‘active hands’ - to get a good bit of ‘huff and puff’ and higher intensity exercise in a range of clients 🥵🚣

Everyone comes into our clinic with their own personal goals and our job as clinicians is to plan our individualised intervention to work toward those… Progress is almost always not as quick as we’d all like and never in a nice, neat, straight line but working toward those goals ‘one step at a time’. How good is it to walk in the sunshine, listening to the birds ☀️🙌🏽
