On the camera roll this month 📸 ….

1. Sliders on the unaffected leg: working on activity and alignment in the stance leg with a decline wedge to encourage movement and stability out of knee hyper extension
2. Dynamic taping + theraband resistance + a visual cue: working on isolated activation of forearm supinators through range in the affected upper limb
3. A busy Neuro Running group: multiple alternatives for different plyometric exercises to meet clients individual needs

Celebrate the little wins… 🎉

Functional gains in the face of a degenerative neurological illness 💪🏽 I remember taking the first video and being SO impressed at the progress he had made then. Now, almost a year between these videos, Micheal requires significantly less physical assistance and verbal prompting to move from supine to sitting and can maintain independent sitting balance for more than a minute where previously was momentary at best!

We’re immensely proud of Michael and his progress, the hard work - all the nagging, the postural control work, home based strength work and functional practice is paying off. He set a new PB in the pool this week too, walking 24 laps with assistance 🙌🏽🙌🏽

Neuro Physio Buys - Aldi Middle Aisle edition!

We all love an Aldi middle aisle impulse buy, however full disclosure, we haven’t tested out any of these products so as always, make sure you do your due diligence and ensure they are fit for purpose and a quick price comparison doesn’t go astray either.

These products were in stock in Midland Gate Aldi yesterday, Monday 11th August but speak with your local store for availability

BINGO 🫣🤣 …walking, talking clichés! How many did you get?!

29/07/2026

From the start of the year, with significant issues with spasticity, muscle stiffness and reduced range of movement in his leg and wrist pain from heavy weight bearing the walking stick. The main goal was walking as a recreational activity with friends and family.

We gradually introduced a new AFO (thanks to Glenn @ The Orthotics Lab), that he could actually don and doff himself and could tolerate to provide a prolonged stretch and improved foot and ankle alignment. Over the past few months, he has made gradual gains in range of movement, improved alignment and activation resulting in increased ease and efficiency of movement, reduced associated tone, less weight bearing through the unaffected arm and no more wrist pain… and is going for regular walks around his neighbourhood for enjoyment and fitness, benefitting his mental and physical wellbeing ✅🚶‍♂️🧠💪🏽

On the camera roll this month 📸 ….

1. Resisted hip flexion with speed maintaining knee flexion on the stance leg on an incline wedge. Working on postural control, stance leg control and swing leg power for running.
2. Modified single leg pogos on a mini tramp. Building confidence in gastrocs strength, coordination and power on the hemiplegic side for running and sport.
3. Modified single leg pogos on ground. As a progression from the previous, aiming for speed whilst maintaining alignment on an ankle tends to increase tone and roll into inversion with increasing effort.
4. 2 point kneeling to half kneeling. Working on postural control and adequate alignment over the unaffected leg, working toward translating into better alignment in standing and walking with reduced associated tone and less effortful swing phase of the hemiplegic leg.
