Spring is here, and while we’re freshening up our homes and gardens, it’s also a great time to check in on your pet.

Have you noticed your pet:

• Licking or chewing their paws
• Sneezing more than usual
• Developing a red or irritated belly
• Scratching, rubbing or seeming uncomfortable?

These signs can be linked to 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀, but fleas, mites and other parasites can also cause irritation and inflammation.

The tricky part is that ongoing scratching and licking can quickly lead to broken skin, secondary infections and a much more uncomfortable pet.

𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺.

🦷✨ 𝑾𝑬𝑬𝑲 2 𝑫𝑬𝑵𝑻𝑨𝑳 𝑴𝑶𝑵𝑻𝑯 𝑯𝑰𝑮𝑯𝑳𝑰𝑮𝑯𝑻𝑺 – 𝑷𝑨𝑻𝑰𝑬𝑵𝑻 𝑺𝑷𝑶𝑻𝑳𝑰𝑮𝑯𝑻! ✨🦷

This week we had the pleasure of caring for so many wonderful patients, but two special boys absolutely stole the show! 💙

🐾 𝑴𝒓 𝑩𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒚 - a gorgeous long-haired Chihuahua
🐾 𝑴𝒓 𝑴𝒂𝒄 - a very handsome senior Red Heeler

Both boys underwent a comprehensive dental procedure this week, including:
🦷 A full dental examination
✨ Scale & polish 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝑨𝑵𝑫 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒖𝒎 𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒆
📸 Full-mouth dental radiographs (X-rays) to assess the health of each tooth

𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝑿-𝒓𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒔𝒐 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒕? 🩻
What we can see above the gum line is only part of the story! A tooth can look perfectly normal on the outside while having significant disease hidden beneath the gum line. Radiographs can help identify problems such as 𝒕𝒐𝒐𝒕𝒉 𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒕 𝒊𝒏𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔, 𝒃𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒔, 𝒇𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒆𝒆𝒕𝒉, 𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒕𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒉𝒊𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒏 𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆, helping our veterinary team determine which teeth are healthy and which may require removal. 🦷🔍

As Seniors Wellness Month comes to an end, we'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who brought their beloved senior pets in for a health check. 💙🐾

It's been such a pleasure reconnecting with many of our much loved golden oldies while also meeting plenty of new senior faces. Every health check has been an opportunity to celebrate the special bond you share with your pets and provide peace of mind for the people who love them most.

As our pets get older, subtle changes can be easy to miss. Senior health checks give us the chance to detect problems early, monitor age-related changes, and help keep our furry family members feeling their best for as long as possible.

🐶 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁 🐶

We're currently seeing an increase in cases of canine cough in our area.

Canine cough is a 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲, meaning dogs don't need to have direct contact with an infected dog to catch it. It can spread through coughing, sneezing and shared air in places where dogs have been, such as parks, daycare, training classes and boarding facilities.

𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿:
🐾 Dry, hacking cough
🐾 Retching or gagging
🐾 Sneezing or nasal discharge
🐾 Lethargy or reduced appetite

If your dog develops a cough, 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰. This helps us minimise the risk to other patients and advise you on the best next steps 💙🐾

"He's just getting old."

It's one of the most common things we hear from pet owners - but sometimes changes we attribute to ageing can actually be signs of an 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.

𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘆𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿:
🔹 Drinking more water
🔹 Weight loss or gain
🔹 Sleeping more than usual
🔹 Stiffness after resting
🔹 Changes in appetite
🔹 Bad breath
🔹 Difficulty jumping or climbing stairs

Many senior pets are incredibly good at hiding discomfort, and early detection can make a huge difference to their quality of life.

Cats can develop 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 (𝗵𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻) just like people, and often show very few signs until it has already affected important organs such as the 𝗲𝘆𝗲𝘀, 𝗸𝗶𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘆𝘀, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻.

🐱 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲?
A small cuff is placed around your cat's leg or tail, and several readings are taken to obtain an accurate result. The procedure is quick, painless, and non-invasive.

💙 Blood pressure monitoring is especially important for:
• Senior cats
• Cats with kidney disease
• Cats with hyperthyroidism
• Cats with heart disease

Because some cats can become nervous at the vet, we always try to provide a calm environment and allow time for them to settle before taking readings.

Regular blood pressure checks can help us detect problems early and keep your feline friend feeling their best for longer. 🐾

A huge congratulations to some of our Puppy School graduates! We are so proud of all the hard work, tail wags, zoomies, and “mostly successful” sits that happened along the way. 💙❤️

From learning the basics like sit, stay, and recall, to building confidence and social skills, these clever pups have come such a long way. Their humans deserve a big round of applause too — puppy parenting is no easy task! 👏🐶

𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿?
No – many lumps are benign (non-cancerous). However, some can be more serious, so checking them early is always recommended.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗮 𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗽?
We perform a physical exam and may recommend a fine needle aspirate, where a very small needle collects a sample of cells for testing.

𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘁 𝗺𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝘁?
Most pets tolerate lump testing very well. It is quick and usually does not require sedation.

𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗶𝗳 𝗶𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘀?
We recommend checking new lumps sooner rather than later. Early diagnosis often means simpler treatment options.

𝗠𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗽𝘀 – 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴?
