I thereâs a multitude of reasons perfectionism is so common
One being that society holds women to an impossibly high standard of âdoing it allâ effortlessly: working full time, raising a family, keeping house WHILST having to try and maintain completely unrealistic beauty standards in the process đŤ
Â
Hereâs why perfectionism keeps you stuck in a failure loop:
You donât allow yourself any flexibility, so when things donât go to plan you give up instead of adapting
You set unrealistic standards for yourself, then beat yourself up when you inevitably donât achieve them
Youâre in a constant cycle of starting new habits, falling off the wagon, starting again Monday, and feeling terrible about yourself
The strategy I teach my clients is called ABC planning:
Â
Plan A:Â the goal we ideally aim for when we can, e.g. hitting 10,000 stepsÂ
Â
Plan B (Back-up):Â when Plan A isnât realistic that day, we pivot and do the next best thing, e.g. Iâm still going to get out for a 20 minute walkÂ
Â
Plan C (Contingency):Â if everything goes out the window, whatâs one small micro-habit I can commit to that still helps me to feel good, e.g. I canât get out for a walk today but I can do 10 squats after my meals to help with blood sugar
Â
Can you see how much flexibility this gives you? This takes failure completely off the table, because there is always some micro thing you can do
This is SO transformative for your mental health too, because it gives you permission to pivot and still make progress even if itâs not at 100%
Â
And THIS is how you finally have freedom in your life. Holidays arenât stressful anymore because you can focus on a few habits at 80% without throwing everything out the window and going over the top.Â
Remember, life is NOT black and white, and learning to allow flexibility into your life will get you 10x farther and make you feel so much better about yourself in the process đ
Save this to come back to đ
