Most people think massage is about “treating yourself”, however, from a nervous system perspective, it’s actually about survival.
Modern life keeps many of us operating in a constant state of “fight or flight” ~ emails, deadlines, notifications, traffic, stress. When this becomes our default state, the body begins to divert energy away from healing, digestion, immunity and restoration.
Ayurveda recognised this thousands of years ago. 🤍
In Ayurvedic philosophy, true health isn’t simply the absence of illness. True health is a state of balance where body, mind and spirit work in harmony.
This is why practices such as Abhyanga (warm oil massage), Shirodhara, breathwork and mindful rest have been used for centuries. Their purpose wasn’t indulgence, it was to assist the body to return to its natural state of equilibrium.
When the nervous system feels safe:
—Digestion improves
—Muscles soften
—Sleep deepens
—Stress hormones decrease
—Healing processes can begin
Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is pause.
Your body has been trying to tell you that all along.
