Nutrient Deficiencies

So common, yet just pumping yourself full of supplements, reaching for higher and higher doses isn’t the best way to address the issue.

Higher doses can actually have the opposite effect and reduce the amount absorbed- Hello regulation!! I have seen this scenario in clinic this week with a client who was taking high doses of zinc for a very long time (which I see a lot post COVID) but it would never budge on her bloods. Dropping down the dose and changing some other things has seen it finally improve.

So if you’re struggling with deficiencies, can’t quite fix that low iron, improve that B12 or still getting muscle cramps even with the increased magnesium you’re taking, it may be time to look a little deeper.

Some of my favourite things from July ☀️

It’s been a month of recharging amongst the chaotic times.

Anyone else experience the desire to join a book club, though realising they get far too distracted that it takes several months to finish a book?? 📖
Any recommendations of clubs that are slow paced for the slow and distracted readers out there - though maybe a club will make me more accountable 🤔

A few of my favourite herbs on rotation currently 🌿

I’ve developed a new love for American Ginseng after taking it myself and seeing how it’s helped several of my clients. It’s perfect as a simple and very small dose only requiring drop dosing.

Chaste Tree has also been a favourite of mine to support my cycle regularity and to reduce my prolactin and PMS symptoms.

Shatavari is such a nourishing cooling Yin tonic, supporting libido, helpful in dry tissue states where moistening is needed while also boosting vitality and supportive during times of stress. Also known as “woman with a thousand husbands”.

Have you used any of these three herbs before? What’s your experience been?

Herbs aren’t suited for everyone and can interact with medications and not be suited for certain conditions or characteristics. So before starting them, chat to your health practitioner or reach out to me for a consult and have your own individualised herbal medicine made.

Confessions from a Naturopath!

It’s no wonder a lot of Naturopath and Nutrition students develop Orthorexia - the obsession with purist culture! And social media amplifies this!

Clean eating, healthy foods, the superiority feeling upon looking at others shopping carts or lunches..

I have moved far away from that obsession and feel like I’m more balanced now, though my partner still thinks I’m extreme and I will get a headache, feel nauseous and get annoyed from strong smelling perfumes or toxxed up room sprays 😆.

It hurts to see clients feeling ashamed or embarrassed to disclose their diet, or alcohol intake or exercise regime. This is a reminder - that I am not here to judge you, we’re all human and perfectly imperfect. I am here to support you and walk alongside you however that may look.

Let’s be imperfectly perfect together.

What’s your confession?? ⬇️

Testosterone tanking 📉

A meta-analysis has shown a big decline in testosterone over the last 50 years. And the recommendations were not to just take testosterone.

There’s different factors contributing to this, I believe endocrine disruptors to be a big one.

Ways to support Testosterone (that don’t involve dodgy deals with your local 💉 dealer)

🍳 Reducing endocrine disruptors chemicals - turf that Teflon pan, Rexona and plastic containers
☀️ Ensuring you have adequate Vitamin D levels as this is an important vitamin for hormones
😴 Getting good Zz’s
🧘‍♂️ Supporting your nervous system and stress management
💪 Resistance training and losing excess adipose tissue
💊 Other nutrients like Zinc, magnesium are really important
🌿 We’ve got some amazing herbs to help boost T, best to speak to a Naturopath to see what’s right for you

Send me a DM if you want to suss out what your testosterone is doing and ways to support it further
