🎉 Celebrating 2 Wonderful Years with Mrs Cate! 🎉

We are so excited to celebrate a very special milestone for our incredible Paediatric Specialist Teacher, Mrs Cate her 2-year anniversary with the Nurturing Life Connections family!

With over 35 years of experience in Early Childhood Education, Cate brings an absolute wealth of knowledge to our team. We are so incredibly lucky to have her. Her genuine passion for working with families and supporting children's development through play-based therapy shines through in everything she does.

🌟 Play Therapy vs. Play-Based Therapy: What is the difference? 🌟

It is a question we get asked all the time! Because the terms sound so similar, the Play-Based Therapy we provide here at Nurturing Life Connections is commonly mistaken for Play Therapy.

While both are wonderful and support children, they serve quite different purposes. Here is a quick breakdown to help explain the difference!

What is Play Therapy?
Traditional Play Therapy is typically a psychotherapeutic approach. It is often non-directive and provides a safe space for children to process complex emotions, past trauma, or significant life changes.

What is Play-Based Therapy?
Play-Based Therapy is an active, targeted, and skill-building approach. At NLC, we use a child's natural language play to intentionally teach and practice real-life skills in a way that is fun, engaging, and child-led.

Our Play-Based Therapy approach is highly collaborative.

Here is what you can expect when working with us:
- Collaborative Goal Setting: We never work in a silo! We develop tailored, actionable goals in close partnership with parents, carers, and your child’s educators or teachers.

- Developmental Milestones: We actively work towards key developmental milestones, helping your child build confidence and capacity through activities they actually enjoy.

- Social & Emotional Regulation: We use play to help children understand their sensory profiles, build social connection skills, and develop emotional regulation.

- Everyday Toolboxes: We ensure the strategies we practice in therapy translate into practical tools you can use for everyday co-regulation at home and in the classroom.

In short: we use the magic of play to help your child learn, play, and explore their unique goals.

🌟 To our wonderful Macedon Ranges community—thank you for a spectacular time! 🌟

We recently wrapped up our FREE Sensory Play at Home workshops and had the absolute joy of engaging with 16 beautiful local families over two sessions!

Facilitated by Jazmyn (Founder & Paediatric Allied Health Therapist), the children loved diving into our hands-on sensory stations. Activities included "Echidna Spikes" (poking sticks into playdough), cozy "Wombat Burrows" (heavy blankets for deep pressure), and our predictable, fizzing "Coral Reef" micro-science experiments.

Throughout the play, Jazmyn provided hands-on examples of how a child’s sensory systems act as brain filters, completely shaping how they experience the world. Parents learned:

- Sensory Regulation: How specific inputs (like deep pressure or linear movement) can soothe the nervous system and help children ground big emotions. 🧠✨
- Inclusive Play: How to support children who avoid sensory inputs. By using simple tools like paintbrushes or tongs, children don't have to touch materials directly to join in. Observing is a completely valid form of participation that helps build environmental tolerance at a child's own pace.

We are all about building meaningful connections, especially right here in our own backyard.

When we spotted a fundraiser for Macedon Ranges Montessori on a local community page, we knew we had to get involved. A quick chat with Madeline revealed exactly how we could help: the kinder needed a brand-new gym mat to keep the kids safe under their monkey bars.

We were more than happy to sort it out! In late July, Jazmyn and Tracey (a proud Macedon Ranges local herself) had an absolute blast delivering the new mat. Here they are smiling out the front of the preschool!

Creating safe, nurturing environments where kids can confidently grow and play aligns perfectly with everything we stand for at Nurturing Life Connections. We love backing brilliant local organisations, and we are so proud to be an active part of this wonderful community.

We love supporting local businesses, especially when the results are this sweet! 😋

A massive thank you to Bake My Day Cookie Co. for perfectly capturing our logo. These made the absolute best gifts for the families who attended our workshops and the wonderful educators at our local child care centres. They were a huge hit! ✨

Fortunate enough to be asked to make logo cookies for a local company to be used as client gifts (in my opinion the best kind of client gifts 😉)

While your child safely explores 6 unique, hands-on play stations (completely water-free to keep us warm!), you will learn right alongside them with Jazmyn and Tracey (Paediatric Allied Health Professionals).

You’ll discover exactly how different sensory inputs impact your child's nervous system and walk away with a practical, gentle toolkit to confidently support their unique sensory needs at home.
