What a deadly day out with community at Southside Celebrations!

Our team had a great time getting involved in the celebrations and running our Healthy Lunch box activity, helping families explore healthy lunchbox ideas together.

Thanks to everyone who came by, had a yarn and joined in.

Today we marked Indigenous Literacy Day with plenty of books, stories, activities and fun.

Sharing stories and reading together helps our kids learn, grow and build strong connections with family, culture and community.

Here are a few moments from today’s activities at Wuchopperen.

What we heard from men

At our Men’s Health Summit, we asked men what they want and need when it comes to their health and wellbeing.

The message was clear. Men want health support that looks at the whole person.

They told us they want more conversations and support around social and emotional wellbeing, mental health and su***de prevention, alongside practical information about diabetes, healthy eating, exercise, regular health checks, sexual health and other important health concerns.

We also heard how important culture, connection to Country, kinship and spiritual wellbeing are to men’s health.

Men want spaces where they can connect with other men, share experiences, hear real stories and support each other. They want services that are culturally safe, accessible and responsive to what men actually need.

Importantly, the men who provided feedback said they felt confident or very confident about taking action to improve their health following the Summit.

This feedback will help shape Wuchopperen’s Men’s Health Strategy for the next four years.

A big thank you to Kunjur First Nations Men's Collective - Cairns for working alongside Wuchopperen to bring the Summit together and for their ongoing commitment to strengthening the health and wellbeing of our men.

We also thank our guest speakers Mick Gooda, Dr Mark Wenitong, Brock Ditton, Dr Matthew O’Bryan, Bevan Bingarape and Bernard Sabadi for sharing their knowledge, experience and perspectives with the men in the room.

Thank you as well to the Wuchopperen staff who worked behind the scenes and throughout the day to make the Summit possible.

Most importantly, thank you to every man who came along, had a yarn and shared what matters to you. Your voices will help guide the next four years of men’s health at Wuchopperen and strengthen the way we support men, families and our community. Bumma Bippera 987fm

Men’s health starts with listening to our men.

We’re at the Wuchopperen Men’s Health Summit today at the Colonial Club, and we want to hear from you.

The conversations happening today will help shape Wuchopperen’s Men’s Health Strategy for the next four years, including how we can better support the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and boys across our community.

Come down, have a yarn and tell us what matters to you.

What are the biggest health issues facing our men?
What gets in the way of looking after your health?
What support would make a difference for you, your family and the next generation?

Your voice matters, and this strategy needs to be shaped by the men it is here to support.

Come down to the Colonial Club today and have your say.

Together, we can build a stronger approach to men’s health that reflects what our community needs.Kunjur First Nations Men's Collective - Cairns Bumma Bippera 987fm

A huge congratulations to Landon, who has been named the 2026 Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year, Tropical North Queensland Regional Winner.

Landon joined Wuchopperen through the Building Community Bridges traineeship and began his journey in Finance before moving into Information Technology, where he found a career path he could see himself building a future in. Today, he is an IT Services Officer and an important part of the Wuchopperen team.

For Landon, working in IT is also another way of giving back to community. By supporting our staff and systems, he helps the teams delivering services to community every day.

His journey has been one of learning, confidence and taking opportunities as they come. As Landon says:

“Grab the opportunity with both hands.”

This recognition is a wonderful acknowledgement of the hard work, commitment and growth Landon has shown throughout his traineeship and beyond.

We are incredibly proud of you, Landon. Congratulations on this well-deserved achievement.

Wuchopperen recognised at the Cairns & Region Local Business Awards

We are proud to share that Wuchopperen Health Service has been named Outstanding Indigenous Organisation at the inaugural Cairns & Region Local Business Awards.

This recognition belongs to our whole Wuchopperen team. It reflects the leadership of our Board, the commitment of our staff and the work happening across our organisation every day to support the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and families.

For more than 45 years, Wuchopperen has been community controlled and community led, delivering culturally appropriate health and wellbeing services across our region.

We don’t do this work for awards, but it is something special to see the dedication, professionalism and commitment of our people recognised alongside businesses and organisations from across Cairns and Far North Queensland.

Congratulations, Team Wuchopperen. This is something we can all be proud of.

Meet Lani and Kai and explore Wuchopperen’s new colouring book series for children and families.

Created as part of our Child Safe Campaign, each book uses colouring activities and simple conversations to help children learn about their health, feelings and what to expect when visiting the clinic.

The series includes:

Visiting the Clinic
Helping children feel safe, comfortable and prepared for their clinic visit.

Healthy Smiles and Strong Bodies
Learning about brushing teeth, drinking water, eating good tukka, moving their bodies and building healthy everyday routines.

Feelings and Wellbeing
Helping children recognise their feelings, talk about big emotions and identify the safe people they can ask for support.

Parents and carers can use the books with children to colour, learn and yarn together.

Free copies are available at our Edmonton and Manoora Clinics.

Ask our team for a copy when you visit.
