Dr Sarah Coll This page will help you keep up to date with what Dr Coll is up to. Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon.

I am an Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Cairns, travelling to Innisfail and Mareeba for clinics. I have lived in Queensland for 20 years, and practiced as a private Orthopaedic Surgeon for 13 years. I enjoy chatting to patients about their injuries and I am happy to explain the science around their diagnosis and treatment. I support the use of physiotherapy before and after surgery and am happy to keep in touch with your preferred provider.

💪Physiotherapy before shoulder surgery💪- or ‘Prehab’ has many benefits. From increasing your baseline strength, flexibility and proprioception in your shoulder - prehab also has significant impact on post surgery stability and recovery.
✨Better mobility and strength before surgery → better recovery outcomes. ✨
🏋🏼‍♀️After surgery, it is important to continue rebuilding capacity in your shoulder in a structured and safe manner guided by a Physiotherapist. This not only prevents further injury, it enables confidence moving through the recovery process so you can get back to what makes you happy! 🚴🏼‍♀️🚴🏻‍♂️🏃🏽‍♀️‍➡️🏊🏼🏂🏄🏻‍♀️
Ask your surgeon or specialist who they recommend for pre and post op physiotherapy support!

🩺Questions before surgery🩺
The days and weeks leading up to surgery can feel overwhelming! You may have millions of questions or even struggle to know what to ask! 🧐

✨We have gathered a few of the FAQs that you can ask at your next surgical appointment:
- Will my surgery be minimally invasive (arthroscopic) or an ‘open procedure’ ?
- Will I have local or general anaesthesia ?
- What are the risks ?
- What is the success rate ?
- What does the healing process look like ?
- How do I manage pain post - op ?
- Should I see a Physiotherapist before and after surgery?
- When will I be able to drive?
- What should I do if I don’t have someone available to pick me up post procedure?

🙋🏽‍♀️Patients - What questions do you wish you'd asked before your procedure?
🥼Doctors - What are the most common and out of the box questions you have received?

✨Shoulder pain doesn’t always mean surgery.✨
💪Many common shoulder conditions—including arthritis, rotator cuff tendonitis, frozen shoulder, and AC joint arthritis—can often be managed successfully without an operation.
👉🏼Treatment options may include physiotherapy, activity modification, anti-inflammatory medication, or cortisone injections to reduce pain and improve function.
👉🏼The right approach depends on the cause of your symptoms and your individual goals.
💤If shoulder pain is affecting your sleep, work, sport, or everyday activities, seeking an assessment early can help you understand your options and get back to doing what you enjoy.

🩺Supporting specialist medical training across our Pacific neighbours Pacific Islands Orthopaedic Association is something I care deeply about. 🩺
🎓Every graduate represents stronger local healthcare, improved access to specialist services, and better outcomes for communities across the region.
🎓 Last year, we celebrated three new graduates from Papua New Guinea, bringing our total to 15 graduates across PNG, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Samoa, American Samoa and Timor-Leste. We also expect up to five candidates to sit their exit examinations this year.
🎓We are delighted to welcome nine new trainees in 2026, continuing to build specialist medical capacity throughout the Pacific.
✨ If you would like to help support the next generation of Pacific medical specialists, we would be grateful for your donation.✨ Every contribution helps create opportunities for training, education and improved healthcare across the region. 🩺
