There is a profound difference between a relationship that activates your wounds and one that allows your nervous system to soften into love.
But sometimes, we have to experience the first before we are truly capable of recognising—and receiving—the second.
I’ve had relationships that taught me incredibly valuable lessons. They showed me where I was abandoning myself, overgiving, accepting inconsistency, confusing intensity with intimacy, or loving someone for their potential rather than their capacity to meet me.
From a spiritual perspective, I can look back at some of those connections as soul contracts—not necessarily relationships designed to last, but relationships that came to reveal something.
They became mirrors. 🪞
Because when we carry unresolved wounds, attachments and beliefs from our past, we don’t always see ourselves—or love—clearly.
It’s like looking through a cloudy lens.
Chemistry can feel like compatibility.
Anxiety can feel like passion.
Waiting can feel like devotion.
Potential can feel like partnership.
Healing begins to clean that lens.
Through self-love. Forgiveness. Boundaries. Reclaiming the parts of ourselves we abandoned. Taking responsibility for our patterns and choosing differently.
And eventually, something shifts.
You stop being magnetised by the dynamics that once consumed you.
You no longer need to chase love, rescue it, earn it or prove yourself worthy of receiving it.
And you create space for something entirely different.
Love that can be passionate and peaceful.
Deep and safe.
Magnetic and consistent.
Perhaps some relationships arrive to awaken us. Some expose the wound. Some teach us what we can no longer accept. 💔
And some meet us after we’ve done enough of the work to finally recognise that love doesn’t have to hurt to be profound.
Sometimes the greatest evidence of healing is discovering that peace no longer feels like something you have to chase.
Have you ever noticed that as you healed, what you were attracted to in relationships began to change too? 🤍
