After presenting on concussion assessment and awareness at yesterday, this is timely for all medical practitioners (and players/parents) to be aware -
* It only takes one concussion to have significant effects
* Strict guidelines on return to play may seem excessive to the player (or parent) but this is the WHY.
* You only have one brain, look after it.

A talent and a team player, Nick Lowden excelled at Aussie rules. But the knocks, bumps, hits and collisions were adding up.

This is why we ask the questions every time. There are too many signs hinting of an issue before RED-S (& injuries) takes hold. Annual medical health screenings are just a start 👩🏼‍⚕️

Alexandra Kiroi-Bogatyreva trained up to 10 hours a day, six days a week, often without the proper nutrition. She wants others to know what that can do to the body.

I love that I have the ability to teach (and hopefully inspire) the new generation of Sport & Exercise Physicians - at the earliest levels at JCU: James Cook University, Australia in medical school and as junior doctors at Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service 🥰😎👩‍⚕️

Sport and an active lifestyle have been central to Dr Monet Visser’s life from the start. From years spent as a competitive gymnast to competing in athletics, touch football and later rugby sevens at university, active competition has long been second nature for the Cairns local.

Spending the weekend in Townsville with completing the World Rugby Level 3 Advanced Immediate Care in Rugby (AICIR).

Yes, practicing needle chest decompressions in some ribs (thankful dogs and no, patients will normally be supine but where’s the fun in that?) - now how many acronyms were there in the end?! 👩🏼‍⚕️💉🩻🩺

Whilst this is run by World Rugby, these on-field (and getting off-field) medical skills translate to any sport, including rugby league and will help to elevate our local sideline practices to the same used at the highest level in the world. It’s an international & cross-code language.

Hopefully, our next step is to organise a level 2 course for our physios and trainers in FNQ & NQ. But grateful to have 4x Cairns-based doctors all trained this weekend, including the FNQSM team 💪🏻🙌🏻

We cannot wait for (hopefully) a successful 2026 season (…and to be honest, with minimal medical work 🤞🏻🤕) But, regardless, and are with you all the way! 💪🏻
