Two years ago, I took a leap of faith and founded Ochre Care. But the story began long before that.

After living in remote areas of Australia, I witnessed firsthand the challenges many people face in accessing the support and services they need. Those early experiences shaped my understanding of community and the importance of walking alongside people through life's challenges.

I have also had the privilege of supporting many people living with disability and their families. Their strength, courage and determination have had a profound impact on me and reinforced my commitment to helping others live meaningful and self-determined lives.

As an Aboriginal social work practitioner, these experiences inspired me to create Ochre Care, a service built on respect, cultural safety, compassion and genuine connection.

As we celebrate two years of Ochre Care, I reflect with gratitude on the journey so far. Every participant, family, community member, colleague and supporter has played a part in making this vision a reality.

A special and heartfelt thank you to those who believed in me, encouraged me, supported me and continued to walk alongside me throughout this journey. There have been many challenging moments, as well as lots of growth and learning, and your support has meant more than words can express.

To our participants and families, thank you for trusting Ochre Care to be part of your journey. It is a privilege I never take for granted.

Here's to continuing to grow, walking alongside people, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we support and the communities we serve.

🧡 Happy 2nd Birthday, Ochre Care. 🧡

🌟 Accessibility Spotting 🌟 Week 11: Clear Wayfinding. Navigating through unfamiliar spaces is about more than just signs. It’s about helping people understand where they are, where they need to go, and how to get there confidently.

Clear wayfinding supports people with intellectual disability, neurodivergent people, people living with dementia, and visitors in unfamiliar places by reducing confusion and stress.

What to look for:
- Maps at entrances and key decision points
- Colour-coded areas or pathways
- Clear directions with consistent layouts
- Landmarks and visual cues for orientation

When spaces are simple to navigate, people can move through them with greater independence and confidence 💙

Changing Places facilities are designed to support people with high support needs and their carers. These spaces include features like ceiling hoists, adult-sized change tables, and extra room for assistance, making outings safer, more comfortable, and more inclusive.

🌟 Accessibility Spotting - Week 9🌟Accessible Pedestrian Crossings 🚦Accessible pedestrian crossings play a vital role in helping everyone move around safely and confidently. Features like audio cues, tactile buttons, and extended crossing times make a big difference for people with vision impairment, mobility challenges, and other accessibility needs.

These thoughtful design elements are essential for creating inclusive communities where everyone can independently navigate public spaces.
