headspace Cairns headspace Cairns is a free mental health service which aims to support 12-25 year olds in Cairns!

headspace can help you if you:

•want to see a Doctor about your physical health (e.g. check-ups, sexual health etc.)

•are feeling worried, down, anxious or upset about anything

•are having hassles with friends, family, and/or your partner

•want help to reduce or stop your alcohol and/or other drug use

•want help to find a job or further your education

•want to meet other people, discuss top

ics of concern, learn new things, and have fun

Brianna is a current member of our YRG and has been present at events headspace Cairns attends, most recently you would have met Brianna at NAIDOC in the Park!

Every month we will be sharing a little info on each of our Youth Reference Group (YRG) members. Our YRG is formed of 16 - 25 year olds who are actively involved in addressing the issues that are important to them making for a better headspace Cairns.

Ebony is a current member of our YRG and has been present at events headspace Cairns attends, most recently Ebony was out helping support The Goanna Academy and came to last weeks NAIDOC events around Cairns!

You can catch Ebony at upcoming events, school talks and sometimes even in centre on a Thursday evening before YRG meetings.

Every month we will be sharing a little info on each of our Youth Reference Group (YRG) members. Our YRG is formed of 16 - 25 year olds who are actively involved in addressing the issues that are important to them making for a better headspace Cairns.

Every month we will be sharing a little info on each of our Youth Reference Group (YRG) members. Our YRG is formed of 16 - 25 year olds who are actively involved in addressing the issues that are important to them making for a better headspace Cairns.

Levi is a current member of our YRG and has been present at events headspace Cairns attends, most recently the AFL Cairns Mental Health Rounds. Levi has shared his own lived experience when talking with young men in the community about seeking support.

You can catch Levi at upcoming events and sometimes even in centre on a Thursday evening before YRG meetings.

On Monday our staff headed out to Yarrabah to visit Paper Bark Arts and Cultural Tours to immerse ourselves in the community, it's history and culture. Paperbark Arts and Cultural Tours is locally owned by Elverina Johnson who had the wonderful help of her son BJ and family members in welcoming us to their land and guiding us through the day.

Yarrabah is the traditional country of the Gunggandji and Mandingalbay Yidinji people and is the largest First Nations community in Australia and has one of the largest First Nations population. They run as their own local shire with a mayor and councillors who work with the community in making sure that their history, traditional practices and culture is passed down through their generations.

The headspace Cairns team felt honoured to spend the day with Elverina and her son BJ and learn about the amazing culture and history.
