Rusty's Place Emmett Technique
The Chameleon approach to body therapies. These are overlapped together at specific junctions where each one can and will influence the other.

Helping people create change in their bodies, minds and lives. ✨ Cairns-based muscle and body release for pain relief and flexibility, Access Bars® sessions and classes, online conversations, author, speaker and curious thinker. Emmett Technique is a safe and simple muscle release therapy developed by Remedial Therapist Ross Emmett. It is used to address pain and discomfort, improve body movement

and can restore a positive emotional state. Description of the principle behind the Emmett technique

Emmett Technique is a special form of body therapy that involves application of light finger pressure at specific points. These are in sequences that enable gentle releases for common problems which include neck, shoulder and back pain. Techniques derived from Ross's observation skills that are also integrated within the treatment to encourage homeostasis. Emmett Technique can be used as an effective adjunct to enhance the treatment value of other types of muscle release and neuro-musculoskeletal therapies, for example: Massage, Chiropractic, Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy or may be used as an effective therapy on its own. Accurate and fast assessment of imbalances present in the body are an integral feature of this technique. The therapy addresses tissues that may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints, or other connective tissue (fascia), as well as lymphatic vessels, or organs of the gastrointestinal system. Critical Point Analysis

In the science of Critical Point Analysis it is identified that in any highly complex system there is a specific, critical point at which the smallest input will result in the greatest change, where the least force exerts the greatest effect (for example a light touch on a small cog can halt the largest engine). It is with this understanding that the Emmett Technique influences the most complex system known – the human body. Working within this principle the Emmett Technique is able to affect two types of receptors, sensory and muscular, which may also activate an emotional state. The therapist is compared to a body electrician who has the power to locate these overlaps or re-set buttons. The muscle that has tripped out due to overuse or overload may only need a light pressure to re-set.

BOOK AN IN-PERSON APPOINTMENT WITH RUSTY ✨

You don’t have to decide what kind of session you need before you book.

Simply choose 30, 60 or 90 minutes, come in with whatever is going on for you, and together we’ll work out what we choose for your session that day.

It might be hands-on muscle and body release to help ease pain, discomfort and restriction and improve flexibility. It might be Access Bars® to quiet the mind and create some space. It might include conversation, questions and practical tools — or a combination of what I do.

Every appointment is different because every person, every body and every day is different.

You’re not booking a technique. You’re booking time for us to explore what might create the most change for you that day.

Expect questions, curiosity, different perspectives and practical tools you can take back into your life.

You don’t have to know what you need before you arrive. Bring what’s happening and we’ll start there.

🤔 Most people hear the word allowance and think... "So I just let people walk all over me?"

But what if that's not the question?

What if the question is...
How often have I walked away from me?
Not physically.

But in the tiny moments.

The moments you knew something wasn't working for you... and said nothing.

The moments you made someone else's happiness more important than your own.

The moments you ignored what you knew because keeping the peace felt easier.

The moments you talked yourself out of what you truly desired because someone else might not understand.

We rarely walk away from ourselves all at once.
It's usually one tiny choice at a time.

💛 Curious...

Where have you been leaving yourself out of your own choices?

And what is one tiny way you could stay with yourself today?

✨ Sometimes the biggest change begins with one small moment of choosing not to leave yourself.

🤔 What if possibility has been knocking the whole time... but we've been taught to listen to pain instead?

Think about it.

When something hurts, we're taught to look at it, analyse it, fix it, understand it, protect ourselves from it and make sure it doesn't happen again.

What if that's only one conversation?

Because possibility invites a completely different conversation.

✨ If I stopped trying to fix this for just a moment... what else might I notice?

✨ Besides the pain, what else is true right now?

✨ If I wasn't only looking for what's wrong... what else could I become aware of?

✨ What else is possible from here that I can't currently see?

Have you ever noticed?

The moment you ask a different question, your attention starts looking somewhere different.

Not because the pain disappeared.

Because your question changed what your mind started searching for.

💛 Curious...

What question could you ask today that would invite possibility into a conversation that's only been about pain?

👇 Start your comment with:

✨ Write down one question that opens your world instead of closing it. Sometimes one different question is enough to notice a possibility that was there all along.

🤔 What if your buttons aren't the problem... what if they're the map?

Most of us spend our lives trying to stop people from pushing our buttons.

If only they changed... If only they stopped saying that... If only they treated us differently...

But what if every time someone pushes a button, they're not showing you where they need to change...

They're showing you somewhere you're not free yet.

That's not blame.

That's possibility.

Because the moment you realise, "Wow... that really got to me," something changes.

You no longer have to wait for someone else to become different before your life can become different.

Instead of asking, "Why did they do that?"

What if you asked,

"What is this showing me?"

Or...

"What belief, conclusion or expectation just got activated?"

Your buttons don't make you wrong.

They simply point to somewhere you have another choice available.

💛 Curious...

What's one button you've been asking someone else to stop pushing...

that might actually be inviting you to discover a new freedom?

👇 Start your comment with:

✨ Write down one button that showed up today, and instead of asking who pushed it, ask what it might be showing you. Sometimes our greatest freedom begins exactly where we stop looking for someone to blame.

How’s your body?

How’s your body?

🌿 Have you been living with symptoms you thought were “just part of ageing”?

Many people put up with muscular tension, stiffness, or a body that feels constantly tight or uncomfortable — assuming it’s something they simply have to live with.

🩺 At Cairns Health Collective, we take a broader view of health and wellbeing.

Rusty Lee Smalley of Rusty’s Place provides allied health bodywork focused on supporting both the body and nervous system. By working with muscular tension and areas of tightness, sessions aim to create space for the body to relax and for the mind to feel more settled.

✨ People often seek support for:
• Ongoing muscle tightness and discomfort
• Neck, shoulder and back tension
• Stress held in the body
• Feeling physically braced or wound up
• Difficulty relaxing or switching off

💬 If you’ve been wondering whether things could feel different, you’re welcome to explore what support may be available.
