Most people spend years waiting to figure out who they are.

Waiting for clarity. Waiting for the right moment. Waiting to feel ready before they commit to anything real.

But identity isn't something buried inside you, waiting to be uncovered. It's something you build. Through the choices you make, the hard things you do anyway, the values you actually live rather than just claim.

This one's for the person who's been managing sore knees so long they've stopped calling it a problem. ๐Ÿฆต

The click on the stairs. The ache after an hour in a chair. The little brace you do before you stand up โ€” so automatic now you don't even notice it. You've built your whole movement life around a joint that's been giving you grief, and at some point that just became normal.

Most of the time what's driving it isn't damage. It's the muscles above and below the knee โ€” quads, glutes, calves โ€” that have gotten weaker or tighter over years of not being used properly. The joint ends up absorbing everything they should be sharing. It wasn't built for that.

You don't have to keep adapting around it.

Every week someone tells me they can't do yoga because of their knees. ๐Ÿง˜

And I get it โ€” yoga looks like a lot of deep bending and kneeling and poses that would wreck an already unhappy joint. That assumption makes sense from the outside.

But here's what I actually see when people come in with sore knees: they haven't been moving enough, not too much. The quads have switched off. The glutes aren't firing. The joint is doing everything on its own because the muscles built to support it have been sitting idle for years.

Resting a painful knee feels logical. But a knee that's been avoided for six months is weaker than it was before. The muscles don't hold their strength through good intentions. ๐Ÿ’ช

Modified movement โ€” done with someone watching your form and giving you options โ€” builds the support structure the knee's been missing. That's what actually changes the pattern.

Jean came to OBH encouraged by her granddaughter, a recent graduate of our Teacher Training program, and what started as a nudge from family has become something entirely her own.

For Jean, yoga is her exhale โ€” between work, children, grandchildren, and everything life asks of her, the mat is her moment. She doesn't pressure herself on how often she comes. She just shows up whenever she can, and that's exactly enough.

Jean, 60 classes of showing up for yourself. We're so glad your granddaughter pointed you in our direction. ๐Ÿ™Œ
