Common Hauntings
I will briefly explain several of the most common hauntings, it’s Important to remember that not all hauntings are the same.

1/ Intelligent Hauntings
Intelligent hauntings are exactly that, intelligent. Spirit can interact with us (the living) and other entities. Spirit can communicate, manifest, move objects and interact with various methods including EVPs and other forms of communications. They can communicate with the living (especially us mediums).
2/ Poltergeist Hauntings
Poltergeist translates from German to "noisy ghost" or "loud spirit". The word comes from the German terms poltern, meaning "to make sound" or "to rumble," and Geist, meaning "ghost" or "spirit". (Net)
Poltergeist activity is mostly known to be chaotic, sometimes aggressive and especially disruptive and in some cases outright dangerous. There are several theories that the exact source may be energy of a living individual rather than a spirit or separate entity (especially those going through puberty or early stages of adulthood). Adults or Adolescents experiencing high stress, delayed learning or disabilities, can also be extremely sensitive, highly gifted with a sixth sense (especially cases Bill APS and myself have experienced and investigated during private cases). It has also been suggested by some researchers that poltergeist activity can be attributed to internal psychological conflicts.
3/ Residual Hauntings
A residual haunting is a past event, a recording, a memory etched into the fabric of the environment, like a video recording that replays, as a continuous loop, when the conditions are just right. A residual haunting cannot interact and is not intelligent, it is an event in caught in time, and the same event is then played back over and over. Some call them echoes from the past.
These residual phenomena are a playback, it is believed to be an imprint replayed during certain environmental conditions. Rock, stones and other materials are believed to capture emotional trauma or events trigger, like a video tape and then a replay the event (residual event) like watching a movie.

My father in-law was an incredible man, and I loved him to bits, sadly he passed away many years ago. Nola his wife lived with Alfred (Freddy) in a small house which was just lovely. It was their little pride and joy home close to the pub for Freddy and Nola to meet up with their friends each day.
When Freddy died, we used to visit Nola (this is before she sold up to live with us) Freddy passed away at home peacefully in his sleep.
I was there with Nola this particular night and Nola kept covering her face. I was watching her, and I knew exactly what she was seeing. A residual haunting, an imprint of her husband going backwards and forwards from the bedroom to the toilet, as he did while he was alive. It wasn’t his ghost but an imprint of himself on the environment doing exactly what he did while living but of course being a residual haunting with no intelligent interaction.
I explained this to Nola, it did seem to help settle her mind just that little bit (my mother in-law wasn’t coping in that house and she eventually came and lived with us) a few months after Alfreds death, she just couldn’t be left on her own.
I also remember hearing a story of a lady who purchased a bluestone property not knowing a murder had occurred outside the front of her building.
On stormy nights she’d see a man k:lling another person outside her window, the first time it happened she called the police. The policeman that attended her address was an officer who had attended the murder scene outside her home many years prior.
When she went outside there was no one there, but the lady’s description was one that rang bells to the officer all those years prior.
A traumatic event can imprint and create a residual haunting, the energy, the atmosphere, the bluestone, the trees, etc....a forever imprint of its tragic history repeating when the conditions are right.
4/ Demonic Hauntings.
Demonic hauntings are believed to be Malevolent beings (that have never been human), they’re fallen Angels, and what I call bottom feeders, who wish to destroy man and human life, through any means possible. These entities can cause mayhem and emotional turmoil afflicting suffering into the human soul.
These spirits/entities will slowly destroy a person’s mental, physical and spiritual state of being to the point of total destruction.
Demons are mostly unseen (invisible creatures and forces, but not always) who can in rarer situations manifest as physical phenomena and present as anything they wish to (this makes them incredibly powerful and dangerous).
Demonic hauntings have existed across most cultures and religious all over the world since the beginning. As a retired nurse (and Medium) I have seen many individuals especially in my Psych Nursing days where I believe individuals were affected with demonic and lower astral spirits. Unfortunately, western medicine doesn’t recognise this.
And then you have sub-categories etc…..

1/ Shadow People
Shadow people are dark shadowy figures believed by many who have experienced them to be dark in nature. Example: Hatman. I experienced Hatman once in my room many years ago now and it was absolutely terrifying and suffocating to experience. Some individuals believe shadow people to be spirits, inter-dimensional beings, shapeshifters etc…Some people believe they’re responsible for sleep paralysis and other psychological phenomena. It’s believed shadow people are non-human entities.
2/ Doppelgängers
The word "doppelgänger" is German, meaning "double walker," and was coined by the German writer Jean Paul in his 1796 novel Siebenkäs.
A Doppelgängers mimics the living person. Some believe that Doppelgängers can be a bad omen or harbingers of death and impending doom and misfortune. An evil double. It is believed if you see a Doppelgängers of yourself that death is near.

3/ Portal Hauntings
Portals can be considered controversial. We believe they’re doorways to other dimensions, to other planes of existence. Similar to haunted mirrors, also believed to be portals to a separate realm of reality.
It is believed that an entity or entities (from all planes of existence) can travel through these portals to interact with humans and other beings on separate planes of existence, even entering your home to cause what we call a haunting.
