Our earliest experiences may exist beyond words or conscious memory. RI-EMDR creates space to gently explore what emerges through the body, parts, imagery, relationship and spiritual meaning- honouring preconception, in-utero, birth and infant experiences without needing to force a story. ✨

Repeat experiences of interpersonal violence amongst victim/survivors often leave individuals feeling like they are to blame. This is often also reinforced by societal messaging that often says being a repeat victim is about “poor choices”. The science has more to say about this! And the message at the end of the day needs to be - abuse and violence happens because of perpetrators, not because of victims' "poor choices".

Learn how trauma changes the brain, nervous system and threat detection, why perpetrators target vulnerability, and why survivors are never to blame.

Many people assume domestic violence ends when a survivor leaves the relationship. Unfortunately, the reality is often far more complex. For many women and children, separation marks the beginning of financial hardship, legal abuse, coercive control through parenting arrangements, housing insecurity, and ongoing fear.

Leaving is often an act of extraordinary courage, but it is not always the end of the violence. Often the abuse gets worse, changes and escalates and the demand to engage in services and systems whilst single parenting leaves many victim/survivors feeling regret, rather than liberation from leaving.

NEW BLOG: Many people think trauma is something that happened in the past.

But for those living with Complex PTSD, trauma often continues to shape the present through anxiety, hypervigilance, emotional overwhelm, people-pleasing, perfectionism, relationship difficulties, chronic shame, or a feeling of being disconnected from themselves.

Complex PTSD isn't a sign that something is wrong with you.

It's often the result of living through experiences that required you to adapt in order to survive.

🦋Margaret Mead was famous for saying “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

No words could have been truer for the heart that was felt within the storytelling and vulnerability shared at High Tea Fundraiser. For the first time in years, I was filled with hope… that the shackle of shame felt by victim/survivors are being loosened, and placed where they belong - with the perpetrators of that harm.

Silence has lived for far too long in our community response to sexual assault. This silence upholds the structure of sexual assault to go on without recognition, accountability and justice.

But today… a room filled with many tables, with many voices… speaking their truth… and nothing but support from all those in alliance with the cause.

Thank you Tina Meyer for your leadership of The Blue Butterfly - your authenticity, vulnerability and warmth is beautiful to witness and will have a ripple effect across generations of those needing healing. 🙏🏻

It was a pleasure to join as a sponsor for the event. 🙏🏻

Thank you the wonderful team at Campbelltown’s Medicare Mental Health Centre with for hosting me as a trainer at your service yesterday.

The 1 day training Beyond Trauma-Informed: Neurobiological Safety in Mental Health Care invites mental health professionals into deeper understanding of what trauma is and how it affects the people we work with. We explored how normal responses to trauma are often pathologised within mental health care, and reframed the way we understand client presentations and what it means to not only be informed by trauma, but work with trauma when it presents.

There is always a personal journey that can come along with professional development, and I was deeply humbled by the vulnerability, wisdom and openness in the training room.

Childhood sexual abuse affects approximately 25-30% of individuals by their 18th birthday. This issue is huge, and the ripple effect on lives and communities is often unaddressed and unspoken.

The Dawn is a proud sponsor of The Annual The Blue Butterfly Institute High Tea being held on Sunday, 31st May at Gledswood Hills Homestead and Winery from 11am-3pm.

The Blue Butterfly Institute is a not for profit and volunteer organisation doing all they can to advocate for, provide resources and free supports/counselling to those who have experienced childhood sexual abuse and trauma.

If you are available that day - please grab yourself a ticket to support the event and hear some wonderful speakers address such an important topic.

The Annual Blue Butterfly Institute High Tea presents an opportunity for the Macarthur and Wollondilly communities to learn about what the Institute does for victims and survivors of sexual trauma, whilst supporting the development of new initiatives.
