At AMA26, we’re taking a hard look at a pressing issue facing doctors today — burnout and moral injury.

On Day 1, our Transforming Medical Culture panel, hosted by AMA Victoria will explore how recent reforms to WHS laws can be used as a practical lever for change in medical workplaces, supporting workplace culture and more sustainable medical practice. The panel will bring together leaders in industry:

• Prof Leanne Rowe AM – GP, publisher of SafeDr website
• Prof Steve Robson – Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Australian National University Medical School, and CMO at Avant Mutual

🌈 People who are LGBTQIASB+ deserve healthcare environments where they feel safe, affirmed, respected, and understood.

This Pride Month, we stand with LGBTQIASB+ patients, doctors, and healthcare workers — and we recognise the ongoing work needed to remove barriers, reduce discrimination, and improve health and wellbeing across the community.

Improving outcomes requires sustained action, evidence‑based policy, and continued advocacy. That commitment guides our work every day and is reflected in our LGBTQIASB+ Health Position Statement.

This World No To***co Day, we’re unmasking the appeal.

Around the world, to***co and ni****ne products are being redesigned to look harmless, trendy, and youth‑friendly — using flavours, colours, and marketing tactics that can make harmful products seem less risky. These tactics continue to influence young people, even where strong regulations exist.

The AMA continues to advocate for strong, evidence‑based public health measures that protect Australians — especially young people — from the harms of to***co and ni****ne addiction.

Let’s keep unmasking the tactics. Let’s keep putting health first.

National Reconciliation Week is a time for us to pause and reflect on the shared histories and cultures that bring us together.

Reconciliation is not a single moment; it’s a continuous journey that calls on each of us to play our part.

At the AMA, we’re proud to stand All In for Reconciliation. We honour the strength, knowledge and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and we remain committed to improving health outcomes through genuine partnership, respect and truth‑telling.

We also recognise and celebrate the leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander doctors and medical students. Your expertise, advocacy and cultural knowledge strengthen our profession and improve care for communities across the country.

To all our members working alongside Indigenous communities every day: thank you. Your dedication is helping build a healthier, fairer future for all.

When it comes to dealing with public health crises, the stakes are too high to wait years for action.

But that's how long passed before the government published its responses to the separate inquiries into the impacts of online gambling and diabetes. A period during which Australians suffered cumulative losses to the gambling industry of more than $90 billion, and an estimated 2,500 lives were lost to diabetes.

The AMA questions both the timing and limited extent of the government's response to both inquiries and calls for immediate and meaningful action to address these worsening national health crises.
