Did your little come come early? — well here’s something every premmie parent deserves to know. 🧡

In the third trimester, babies go through some of the most crucial growth and development of their entire pregnancy — brain maturation, muscle development, and early movement patterns all happen in these final weeks. When babies arrive early, they can miss some of that vital window, which is why premature babies are 40% more likely to experience gross motor delays, and many also need a little extra support with communication.

This isn’t something to be scared of. It’s something to feel empowered by. The earlier you know, the earlier you can help! And how do you help? Through play!

Follow along — we’ll support you and show you how to play with purpose 💪

Every piece of educational content we create starts with a real baby doing real things — tummy time that’s actually tricky, play that’s genuinely messy, milestones that happen in their own different ways.

We’re building a library of resources to help families across Australia understand their baby’s development — and we’d love your little one to be part of it.

If you’re in Brisbane or Canberra and have a baby aged 4–12 months, slide into our DMs — we’d love to chat! 👶🧡

Pretend fruit toys aren’t just cute — they’re a physio’s secret weapon 🍊 One toy, four completely different skills depending on how you use it.

CLIP 1 · CHOPPING
Hand strength + bilateral coordination

Pressing down to chop builds hand and wrist strength. Using both hands together (one to hold, one to chop) is bilateral coordination — a building block for everything from dressing to writing.

Language + cognitive development

CLIP 2 Collecting and naming

Asking baby to find or fetch specific fruits builds vocabulary, colour recognition and early problem-solving. Even pointing and babbling counts — this is how language starts!

CLIP 3 ·
Gross motor strength + balance

Squatting down to pick up fruit and standing back up builds leg strength, balance, and ankle mobility. This movement pattern is foundational for walking, running and climbing stairs. Do it through hide and seek and your kids will love it.

CLIP 4 · WASHING
Fine motor + sensory play

Rubbing, scrubbing and rinsing the fruit develops fine motor skills, hand grip strength and sensory tolerance — especially for babies who are tactile-sensitive. Plus it’s genuinely fun.

Save this so you remember next time you’re setting up play!

Is your little one nearing 6 months? Then they might be getting ready to learn to sit!
Mini milestones are the little movements that build the strength, balance, and coordination babies need BEFORE they can learn the next big skill we all know and celebrate.
For learning to sit, this can look like:
1️⃣ Holding their head steady while someone supports their body
2️⃣ Propping on their arms in sitting… but if the toy moves too far away… timber 😅
3️⃣ Sitting and reaching — learning how to play while balancing at the same time
4️⃣ Learning to get in and out of sitting independently — the final challenge before moving on to crawling!
At Brave Kids Physio, we teach these mini milestones because they give families simple, practical ways to play with their child while helping them learn new skills through movement and play 🧸
Need ideas for games or play tips for these stages? Let me know what your little one is working on and I’ll send through some ideas!

Balance buckets are a physio favourite for helping little ones with their balance.

To have good balance you need 3 skills. Single leg strength, weight shift, and single leg balance.

If you use your buckets a little differently you can easily boost your child’s balance and get them engaged at the same time!

Don’t have balance buckets - just use storage boxes.

Or grab some on our store.

Tummy Time for a “Spewy baby”

Having a baby with reflux is difficult and it can be
distressing. Often we see parents avoid tummy time or play activities
due to reflux. And we completely understand! It’s hard to know how much is to much and whether tummy time is worth it!

Making this subtle little change to tummy time means your baby still has the opportunity to learn and gets stronger through tummy time

No it won’t stop the spew, but it will help them spew less, and be happier whilst they practice their tummy time stills.

You got this! You know your baby best! Just add this to your tool kit of ways to play with your baby.

Does your child lean on things when sitting?
Do they lie down when playing?
Do they get in trouble at school for next sitting still?
Do they get tired easily?

Do they find it hard to learn new gross motor skills like jumping, running or bike riding?

These are all little signs that could mean your child is low tone.

Learn ore about it in our blog. https://bravekidsphysio.com.au/what-is-low-muscle-tone/

Little one ready to walk?

There are many little mini milestones that your Bub needs to master before they can take their first step.

One of them is cruising. Cruising along furniture teaches Bub to weight shift only one leg, balance on that leg and lift the other. Sounds like walking right? It is! It’s the easier version that allows Bub to practice to build strength, coordination and balance.

If you give hi the opportunity to do this lots - they will be walking in no time. Get the baby gates ready!
