Mood Nutrients Part 2: Zinc

Nourishing your body is such an honour and foundational for supporting your physical body & mind.

When the body is under stress (physical, mental, emotional) the demand for nutrients increases. Part of my role is to identify nutrient deficiencies that could be contributing to your experience of low mood, fatigue, depletion, exhaustion or anxiousness.

Zinc deficiency is common and might show up in the body as:
- Mental fatigue
- Changes in cognition and emotional regulation
- Changes in behaviour and irritability
- Reduced sense of taste or smell
- Lots of colds and flus
- Wounds that take a long time to heal or scar
- Reduced appetite

Zinc is needed for immune health, gut health, reproductive health and the regulation of neurotransmitters (serotonin, GABA, dopamine).

You can boost your levels of Zinc with:
- Oysters
- Pumpkin seeds
- Red meat
- Fish and chicken
- Nuts
- Legumes

If you’re experiencing any of the symptoms above DM me to go further.

Or talk to me about 1:1 mentoring, where we take a holistic approach to how you’re feeling, not only exploring the foundations of your health (sleep, movement, hydration, food) but also diving into your mindset, beliefs, mind-body connection and creating the life that you desire. If you’re ready to feel completely supported diving into your health, reach out to me!

We live in a world where busy is the norm and quiet, stillness and slowing down results in women feeling guilty and anxious.

The consequence is an overwhelmed woman trying to juggle it all (hint, we were never meant to do it all)

If you have or are headed to the point of burnout you are likely physically and emotionally exhausted, depleted, with a chaotic immune system, irregular sleep, your overall health is deteriorating and you’re left questioning ”how did I get here?”

Overwhelm is your warning signal, to slow down before the system (you) is overloaded. And feeling overwhelmed on it's own isn't a bad thing.

But when it’s constant and contributes to a constant stressed and anxious state it can be.

Use the tips below to reduce feelings of overwhelm and prevent burnout.

- Simplify your life: reduce commitments back to essentials
- Get back to basics: time in nature, nourishing foods, more sleep, gentle movement
- Ground yourself daily: beach walks, barefooted in the grass and in the dirt, outside yoga
- Do something that fills your cup: what brings you joy, lights you up, fills your soul? Create the spaciousness for more of that in your life
- Use your breath: the bring stillness into your day, to anchor into your body, to calm your mind. Start with 3 minutes of deep and slow breathing daily.

If overwhelm is your norm and you’re ready for calm, places are now open inside my 1:1 program for May. The Nourished Method is a holistic 6 week experience where we reset your life by supporting your body and mind with good food, nourishing the pillars of your health, crafting an individualised toolkit of self-care practices, exploring what's keeping you stuck with beliefs and mindset work and deepening the mind-body connection. Mood Nutrients Part 1: Magnesium

It's a common deficiency, integral to supporting your mood and is involved in over 300 reactions in the body.

- required for the healthy function of the nervous system
- needed for healthy DNA
- amino acid and protein synthesis
- helps manage stress but is often depleted with stress

Stress depletes our nutrient stores because our body has to upregulate pathways to keep the body functioning, meaning we burn through our stores quicker than we are replenishing. And if the body is under chronic long-term stress this can look like multiple nutrient deficiencies exacerbating your anxiety.

A Magnesium deficiency can result in mood changes, low energy, muscle weakness, sleep changes and poor concentration.

So how do we boost magnesium stores?

Magnesium-rich foods:
- Leafy greens
- Cacao & dark chocolate
- Nuts - almonds, cashews
- Seeds - pumpkin, flax, chia
- Avocados
- Legumes
- Whole grains

Epsom salt baths is another of my favourite recommendations to boost Magnesium levels! We can absorb the magnesium through our skin + you get the pleasure of a beautiful bath. Make it an experience with dim lights, candles & music.

Nourishing your body is an integral first step to supporting anxiety and it's more than just beautiful food. It's addressing underlying nutrient deficiencies that might be exacerbating your experience of anxiety.

This is why it's the first step in my 6-week 1:1 program, The Nourished Method. DM me to find out how you can secure your place in the program. Only 2 spots left for April.

Why does Naturopathic medicine stand out in anxiety support?

- We address what's underlying
- We treat you as a whole (not just the symptoms)
- We see you as a complex being in need of an individualised approach to your health
- We navigate the health space and personalise your treatment approach
- We recognise your body autonomy and that you are the expert of your own body
- We know that symptoms are just a way of your body communicating to you that something is out of balance
- We work to bring your body, and health, back into alignment

The internet is full of information, especially in the health space.

And it's easy to google your symptoms.

But knowing information and being able to work with it is a completely different thing.

And implementation and integration into your life is next level.

That's what I bring as a Naturopath: information, practical guidance and support to integrate and implement into your day to day.

Naturopaths allow the space for you to tell and explore your story, sometimes the most therapeutic part of our time together.

We foster a working relationship with you, in a supportive and safe way.

We draw on a blend of food as medicine, lifestyle medicine, counselling and coaching techniques, nutritional and herbal medicine to guide you on a path back to health.

Have you considered Naturopathy for managing your anxiety?

Talk to me about The Nourished Method, my 6 week 1:1 program that seamlessly blends naturopathic medicine and a coaching experience. Specifically designed to bring you back into a state of health and alignment. Guiding stressed, anxious and overwhelmed women back to a state of nourished, calm, grounded and in tune with themselves.

Why did I call my program The Nourished Method?

To me nourishment is filling up every corner.

It’s overflowing your body with physical nourishment (nutrition and food) but also nourishing your mind and essence to the point of overflow.

So that the next time something challenging pops up (it always does) you are so well nourished, you find yourself gliding through it.

Nourishment means overflow.

An overflow of love, of connection, of presence, of depth.

Nourishment is all of it: belief work, physical nourishment, connection, practices that ground you, and love work (loving and honouring you).

As women, we have so much to give to others, but do you give to yourself?

Are your “nourish wells” deep enough for that?

Or do you need to deepen them?

I’m here for that work.

For you to feel so anchored in yourself, so connected to your core, so in tune with your body and mind, so flowy with your emotions.

For honouring your feminine being.

Beautiful, send me a DM if you’re ready for this depth of work, if it’s calling to you.

If your ready to be held and supported each step of the way.

If you’re ready to live and honour yourself in a way you have only ever dreamed about.

If your ready for an abundance of energy, glowing mood and expansive health.

I’m here for all of this x

I've started a new practice I'm calling greet the morning.

It's where I walk outside in the morning if the weather is fine or if it's raining then I stick my head out the door. Breathe in the scents of the morning, listen to the bird calls. Feel the chill of the air on my skin or the warmth of the morning sun on my face. Express gratitude for the beauty of another day.

I might sit, stand, stretch or twirl.

I might do it before yoga, maybe after. Or maybe when the kids are eating breakfast.

I'm creating the spaciousness for this in my morning.

To ground, to anchor into my day.

I start my day with a lightness, not stuck in the weight of ”to-do’s” and ”shoulds”.

It's beautiful.

Do you wake up with all your tasks for the day floating through your head?

Maybe you could bring some stillness and ease into your mornings with a practice like this.

I had a powerful reminder this week.

Some things are outside of my control.

And sometimes everything that I have in place to support myself and everything I have been building go out of the window.

What can I do then?

How do I support myself then?

The only option I have available is to surrender,
and ride the waves.

And rebuild on the other side.

My kiddos and I got sick (childcare germs 🙌)

And I kept thinking why?

Why now?

When I'm shaking everything up and rebuilding my business?

But maybe I needed this lesson,
to loosen my grip on perfection,
to embrace the chaos and beauty of life,
to surrender to the process,
and to trust that little bit deeper.

I asked myself what I needed after yoga this morning.

It wasn't to have a shower and start my day as usual,
but to pause sitting on my mat,
watching the glorious morning in stillness
and then to write.

To express my heart.

This is what I needed. So I did it.

We spend so much time in the ”shoulds”

We could easily live completely in the should's.

But what if you started listening to the ”wants”, ”desires” and ”what if’s”?

What if you spent more time there?

Where would it take you?

How would it change your life?

Honour yourself.

Trust that you always know what you need in any moment.

Hi mumma,

Are you snappy throughout the day?

Finding yourself easily frustrated?

Or easily overwhelmed?

Are you collapsing on the couch in the evening for a few precious moments of you time before dragging your exhausted self to bed, reflecting on the parts of the day you wish had gone differently?

I see you mumma.

Motherhood pushes you to your edges.

But what if we could switch this?

What if we could swap exhausted for energised?

Snappy & frustrated for fulfilled?

Depleted for nourished?

What if we made you a priority?

Supporting your sleep.

Boosting your energy levels.

Balancing your mood.

Providing space for you to get to know yourself again.

To reconnect with your core.

Incorporating practices into your day and week that nourish and ground you.

Fueling your body and mind with nourishing foods.

Bringing joy and balance into your day.

And the skills to support yourself in such a deep and replenishing way.

All of this.

It has the potential to fundamentally change how you show up, rippling gently through every area of your life.

This could be your reality.

It’s all available to you.

I take women on a 6-week journey of health & self-exploration in my program The Nourished Method.

If you’re done with
frustration,
exhaustion
and
overwhelm
being your norm.
And you’re finally ready to take the first steps of transformation, reach out to me with a DM.

I have 2 spots in The Nourished Method available to start this month!
