Our Men’s Group recently got together to play an adapted version of a WW2 tabletop game called Bolt Action, where participants worked as a team to complete missions, rescue helicopter crews and outsmart their opponent. 🚁

Everyone took control of different units, from tanks and soldiers to helicopters and troop carriers. With a map full of obstacles, dice rolls to determine the outcome of battles, and new rules introduced as the game progressed, there was plenty of strategy, problem-solving and teamwork involved.

The mission was to capture prisoners and rescue the crews of two downed helicopters. While the team couldn’t complete every objective, they successfully rescued both helicopter crews and secured a 2–1 victory! 🏆

Our Men’s Group is all about exploring personal interests, sharing knowledge and learning new things together. From history and technology to hands-on activities that encourage curiosity and problem-solving, sessions are shaped around the interests of the people who attend. It’s a great opportunity to build skills, connect with others and dive deeper into the things that interest you!

We’re so proud to see Geoff featured in The Canberra Times as part of an important conversation about inclusive employment in Canberra.

Geoff’s story is a wonderful reminder of what can happen when people are given the opportunity to share their skills, build confidence and be valued for what they bring to the workplace.

The article highlights the important role Canberra businesses can play in creating more inclusive workplaces and opening their doors to people with disability. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to find meaningful work, contribute to their community and feel proud of what they do.

Thank you to The Canberra Times for helping shine a light on inclusive employment, and to Geoff for sharing his story. We couldn’t be prouder. ❤️

Canberra businesses, this is your invitation! 🙌

Are you ready to open your doors to inclusive employment? We want to hear from you! Whether you’re ready to create an employment opportunity or simply want to learn more about how inclusive employment could work for your business, get in touch with the Koomarri team.

This month, we’re celebrating Alex, our Manager of People, Culture & Compliance, who is marking an incredible 10 years with Koomarri! 🎉

Over the past decade, Alex has been a constant and valued part of the Koomarri community. Through her work in PC&C, she has supported countless staff members, helped build and nurture our workplace culture, and been there through a whole lot of change along the way. The contributions she makes to our organisation have a lasting impact, long after the day-to-day work is done.

We’re incredibly grateful for the care, dedication and knowledge Alex has shared with Koomarri over the past 10 years, and for everything she continues to bring to our team. ❤️

To celebrate this special milestone, we asked Alex a few questions about her time at Koomarri, her favourite memories and what has kept her here for a whole decade!

Q❓ Is there a piece of advice you’d give your younger self on your first day?
A ✏️ Never underestimate the difference you can make. You might not always see the immediate impact, but the way you show up, the choices you make, and the support you offer others will leave a lasting impact.

Q❓ What’s the most fun you’ve had at work?
A ✏️ I had an absolute blast dressing up as the Grinch for our Christmas in July party! Bringing that kind of energy and joy to work is a must in my book.

Q❓ Who has had the biggest influence on your career during your time with us?
A ✏️ Being part of the journey alongside Nadine, and learning from Ralph as my predecessor, has been a privilege. Through their leadership and genuine care, they created an environment where I felt trusted and valued, which has made all the difference.

Q❓ What are you looking forward to most in the next 10 years?
A ✏️ Continuing to learn, grow, and contribute to Koomarri’s mission. I’m incredibly grateful to be in a role where I see the direct link between our people, our daily practices, and the real difference we make every day.

Significant changes to the NDIS are beginning to roll out from next month, with further reforms taking place over the coming years.

The changes will affect areas including planning, funding, eligibility, provider requirements and how some supports are delivered.

These reforms follow recommendations from the Independent Review of the NDIS and the Disability Royal Commission, with the Australian Government aiming to create a fairer and more sustainable NDIS for the future.

There’s a lot of information to take in, and not all of the details are available yet. Most changes will also happen gradually rather than all at once.

Koomarri will be hosting two information sessions for families and guardians of Koomarri participants.

🚨 National AusAlert Test – Monday 27 July at 2:00 pm

A nationwide AusAlert test will take place on Monday 27 July 2026 at 2:00 pm (AEST).

During the test, compatible mobile phones and devices across Australia will:
📳 Vibrate
🚨 Emit a loud siren-like sound for around 10 seconds
📱 Display a priority notification on the screen

The alert may activate even if your phone is locked or you’re using another app or on a call.

For some people, including those who are sensitive to loud or unexpected sounds, this alert may be distressing or startling.

If you support someone who may be affected, consider:
• Talking to them about the test beforehand
• Reassuring them that it is only a test and there is no emergency
• Using headphones, moving to a quiet space, or making other arrangements if helpful
• Letting family members, carers or visitors know about the test

If you or someone you support would prefer not to receive the test alert, you can:
✈️ Turn your phone to aeroplane mode before 2:00 pm, or
📴 Turn your device off before 2:00 pm

Your device can be returned to normal once the testing period has passed.

A short 30-second TV commercial explaining what to expect is also available in various languages on the National Emergency Management Agency YouTube channel for anyone who would like to learn more.

Thank you for helping ensure everyone is informed, prepared and supported during the national AusAlert test.
