⚠️ Australia is experiencing its worst diphtheria outbreak in decades.

Diphtheria is a serious bacterial infection that can cause sore throat, breathing difficulties, skin sores and, in severe cases, heart complications.

Vaccination is the best protection against severe illness. In Australia, the diphtheria vaccine is given in combination with the tetanus vaccine, so if it’s been a while since your last tetanus shot, it may be time to speak with your GP about a booster.

Health experts are encouraging:
✅ Parents to keep children’s vaccinations up to date
✅ Adults to check when they last had a booster
✅ Anyone living in or travelling to higher-risk areas to consider a booster every 5 years
✅ Anyone unsure of their vaccination status to speak with their GP or healthcare provider

Protect yourself, your family and your community. 💙
