Spring is approaching. But for many Australians, UV exposure is part of the working day all year round.
For those who work outdoors, in construction, trades, landscaping, transport, agriculture, education, sport or other outdoor roles, sun exposure isn’t just something that happens at the beach
Cancer Council Australia reports that outdoor workers can receive between five and ten times more UV exposure than indoor workers, with occupational UV exposure estimated to contribute to around 200 melanomas and 34,000 other skin cancers in Australia each year.
And new data released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare in August 2026 provides an important reminder of just how common skin cancer is in Australia: approximately 500,000 Australians have a common non-melanoma skin cancer surgically removed each year.
As we move towards the warmer months, it’s a good prompt to think about the skin you live and work in.
☀️ Make sun protection part of the working day.
