💜Doubling down on maternal support — we had Dr Camille Rains and Vanessa Moss join us at the Motherhood and Matrescence office.

🫶The three of us have a passion for sharing information to give others greater agency and support in their wellbeing journey.

🌿 Vanessa Moss Nutrition showed us how the foods we eat can positively or negatively influence our mood, energy, and sleep. 🌿She gave us brand swaps for cleaner eating, easy wins to help us tweak meals and gain max nourishment from them, and dinner ideas that won't cost you time — but will help sustain your energy and build your health.

🚺 Dr Camille from Novella Health explained how hormones impact tissue, recovery, and the symptoms we experience and the vital role the pelvic floor plays in women's health. She spoke openly about bladder leakage, dryness, painful in*******se, and prolapse — and the importance of seeking support early, rather than just living with any discomfort.

Have you started a new “healthy habit” and found yourself wondering…
“Is this actually RIGHT for me?” 🤔💭

🥗 Dietary changes
💊 A supplement
✨ A wellness trend
🌅 A morning routine
✨ A “healthy” fad everyone seems to rave about

And maybe part of you is hoping this will finally be the thing that fixes EVERYTHING and makes you feel AMAZING again 😅

But regardless of what it is, my first question is always this:

“How does it actually make you FEEL?”

Because if you feel:

I was so honoured to join Mandy from Motherhood and Matrescence and her 4th cohort of the “Masterclass for Mums” here in the Whitsundays 🌴 yesterday

We started with a reflection on common eating patterns for busy mums

⏰ Skipping meals
🚗 Eating on the go
💛 Prioritising everyone else over yourself

One key topic that really resonated with some mums was this…

If we start the day with a quick “grab & go” breakfast like toast or cereal (or skip breakfast altogether 🫣), we may find ourselves crashing in energy later in the day 😓

Yep… that’s often when we start reaching for the chocolate bars 🍫, chips, crackers, or another caffeine hit ☕️

And whilst we celebrate carbohydrates and their foundational role in creating energy ✨

We also need adequate PROTEIN, healthy fats, and fibre — especially at breakfast — to help sustain that energy throughout the day 🍳🥑🥜

But how do we make this EASY for busy mums? 🤔

🥚 Keep pre-boiled eggs ready to add to toast
🥣 Pre-mix a granola with nuts and seeds, then simply add yoghurt (just as easy as cereal!)
💪 And if you need a little extra support, top up with protein and/or collagen powder

Or one of my personal favourites…

🍲 “Flip the script” and have dinner for breakfast.

Simply keep aside some protein-rich leftovers from dinner the night before.

Not only is it super quick… it’s often one of the most nourishing options too 🌱

If you're waiting for the “right time” to start your journey towards better health… consider this 🤔✨

It doesn’t have to be a complete overhaul of the way you eat or live.

It doesn’t have to happen when you have more time to do everything “perfectly”.

And you don’t have to wait until after that special event where you know there’ll be extra indulgences 🍰😅

Start SLOW 🌱

So that you can start NOW.

Because every little change can make a difference ✨

No matter how small.
No matter how imperfect.

Here are a few simple ideas to start:

🥕 Add one extra colourful vegetable to each meal

🥚 Boil up some eggs to add to your breakfast (protein!)

☕ Or simply… take 10 minutes to enjoy a cup of tea

The act itself is a moment to slow down, rest your body, and calm your mind 😌

Better yet, choose a tea that supports what you need in that moment — something calming for mood or sleep, or something soothing for digestion like peppermint or ginger 🌿

It doesn’t have to be complicated

A gentle start is still a start 💫

“What’s going on with my gut?” 🤔💭

This is a question I’ve asked myself MANY times over the years 😩

Bloating. Food sensitivities. Irregular bowel motions. Constipation. Diarrhoea. The whole rollercoaster 🎢

A huge part of why I became a Nutritionist was because I was trying to figure out 🔎 what was going on in my own body

And if your journey feels like:
“I think I’m improving!” 🙂
followed by:
“Wait… why am I back here again?” 😩

I get it 🙋‍♀️

Because... even as a Nutritionist… MY digestion is far from perfect!

There are so many moving pieces 🧩
Stress. Hormones. Genetics. Environmental factors. Sleep. Life just being ridiculously busy 🤷🏼‍♀️

And sometimes you KNOW what to do… but the thought of meal prep, cooking, research, and trying to get it all “right” just feels exhausting 😮‍💨

When I’m in consult with a client talking about juicing… 🍏🫜🫚

It only feels right to follow it up with a freshly squeezed juice stop in town ✔️

There can be so much confusion around juicing…
Is it GOOD or BAD? 🧐

Some say it’s “bad” because removing the fibre may lead to a bigger blood glucose spike ⬆️

Others say it’s beneficial because it can be an easy way to increase nutrient intake and access powerful 💥 phytonutrients like polyphenols.

Personally, I think it’s similar to many concepts in nutrition…

It’s often not about whether something is “good” or “bad”.
It’s about whether it’s right for YOU, right NOW.

🌱 Your current health status, symptoms, goals, digestion, blood sugar regulation, stress levels and overall health journey all matter.

What may be supportive for one person may not be the best next step for another.

🐣 HAPPY EASTER! 🐣

Here is a little carroty 🥕recipe inspiration for you that is...

😋 yummy enough for an Easter treat
🌱 with enough nutritious goodness to feel nourished and fulfilled

CARROT & WALNUT MUFFINS
Ingredients:
1½ cups (200 g) buckwheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
1¼ tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp ginger
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
¼ tsp ground cardamom
¼ tsp salt
1½ cups finely grated carrot
Zest of 1 orange (≈ 1 tsp)
1 large egg
½ cup (125 g) Greek yogurt
1/3 cup (≈ 100 g) honey
1–1½ tsp vanilla extract
¼ cup (55 g) macadamia oil
½ cup chopped walnuts

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 180°C and line a muffin tin.
2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, bicarbonate, spices, and salt.
3. In another bowl, whisk egg, yogurt, honey, vanilla, oil, and orange zest until smooth.
4. Add wet ingredients to dry and mix until just combined.
5. Fold in grated carrot and walnuts.
6. Divide batter evenly into muffin cases.
7. Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a skewer comes out clean.
8. Cool in the tray for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool completely.
