πŸ“šLiteracy & Numeracy in Action at Springwood Kingdom Kids πŸ”’

Using felt board images, the children delighted in retelling the classic story Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? 🐻🎨 This activity supported their language development, sequencing skills, and confidence in storytelling as they brought the story to life in their own way.

Our cosy reading corner continues to be a favourite space, with books capturing the interest of all our friends and encouraging a love of reading every day. πŸ“–

In numeracy, the children have been exploring AB patterning using unifix cubes and pattern cards πŸ”΄πŸ”΅. They worked hard to recognise, recreate, and extend patterns, developing their early mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills through play.

Through the use of pattern cards and shape blocks, the children are also developing their spatial awareness, learning to recognise how shapes fit together and how patterns are formed in space. 🧩

We love seeing our learners grow through meaningful, playful experiences! 🌟

Yesterday our Springwood learners celebrated World Ocean Day through a hands-on learning experience! πŸ’™ The children explored caring for our oceans by sorting different items and deciding what belongs in the ocean and what should be disposed of properly. Through this activity, the children showed fantastic thinking and discussions recognising that sea animals belong in the ocean, while plastics and rubbish do not. 🐒🚯

We also enjoyed reading β€œA Place for Plastic” from Twinkl, which helped us understand how plastic waste can impact marine life and why it’s so important to make safe and responsible choices. πŸ“–

This experience supported the children in developing their awareness of sustainability and how we can all play a role in protecting our beautiful oceans. Well done to our little environmental champions! πŸ’šπŸ‘

Springwood Kingdom Kids, learning journey took us to Germany!
The children enjoyed colouring the German flag and map, helping them become familiar with its colours and where it is in the world. 🌍 We also discovered the red fox, a common animal in Germany, which sparked lots of curiosity, conversations, and excitement! 🦊
To complement our learning, we created Bauhaus-inspired stained-glass artwork, exploring bold colours, shapes, and creativity in a fun and meaningful way. The results were beautiful! 🌈
We love seeing the children connect art, culture, and learning together. πŸ’›

Our Springwood Kindergarten learners have been exploring the wonders of nature! πŸŒπŸœπŸ› During outdoor play, the children discovered worms, grubs, and ants, sparking plenty of excitement and investigation.
Some children spent time closely observing a worm wriggling across the ground, watching with fascination as it eventually burrowed beneath the soil. Moments like these provide meaningful opportunities for children to ask questions, share ideas, and develop a deeper understanding of the natural world around them.
It’s been wonderful to see their curiosity leading the way and their confidence growing as they explore, discover, and learn through play. πŸŒ±πŸ’š

This week, our Springwood children have been thoughtfully engaging in activities to learn more about Aboriginal culture as part of Reconciliation Week.
The children created a beautiful wreath using leaves collected from around our Mulberry Tree. As they decorated their leaves, they explored Aboriginal symbols, using them as inspiration for their designs and creativity.
We also enjoyed a sensory experience using the colours of the Aboriginal flag, encouraging meaningful conversations and deeper understanding through play.
It has been a wonderful opportunity for our children to learn, reflect, and show respect as we journey together towards reconciliation.

Springwood Kingdom Kids took part in National Simultaneous Storytime, joining early childhood services and schools right across Australia to enjoy the same story at the same time!
This year’s featured book was Luna Roo by Adam Wallace and Adrian Beck – a fun, high-energy outback tale about courage, teamwork, and believing in yourself as Luna Roo chases her football dreams. πŸ¦˜πŸ‰
What a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading together! πŸ’›πŸ“–

This morning at Calvary OSHC Carbrook, our students enjoyed a special Play School Story Time reading of Our Dreaming by Indigenous author Kirli Saunders β€” a gentle, poetic introduction to Dreaming stories and their importance in First Nations culture.

Reconciliation Week matters for school‑age children because it helps them understand Australia’s shared story and encourages respect, empathy, and curiosity about cultures beyond their own. When we celebrate it in a thoughtful and respectful way, we show children how to honour traditions and voices that have shaped our country for tens of thousands of years.

And a lovely bonus: Kirli is Ms. Gabi’s childhood friend, making today’s experience extra special for everyone.

What a meaningful way to start the day and celebrate Reconciliation Week.

🌷🌍 Exploring the Netherlands at Kingdom Kids Springwood! 🌍🌷
This week, our Springwood children have been discovering the beautiful country of the Netherlands as part of our cultural unit. Using digital technology, they explored traditional Dutch windmills and even learnt how wooden clogs are made! πŸ‘ž
The children enjoyed tasting foods from the Netherlands and got creative painting vibrant tulips, making paper cup windmills, and decorating Dutch flags.
A wonderful week of hands-on learning, creativity, and cultural discovery! πŸ’›
