Why do you do family history?

Why do you do family history?

That first memory that came to mind? That's the one.

Why do you do family history? Maybe it's the sound of a grandparent's voice telling a story you never wanted to forget. Maybe it's an old photograph that suddenly makes someone real again. Or maybe it's making sure your family's legacy is preserved for the generations still to come.

Whatever draws you to it, we'd love to hear your story in the comments. 💚

The printer has been working overtime at the Family History Centre today! 📜

What's even better to think about is that each printed name represents a life, a legacy, and a family waiting to be remembered.

Learning about our ancestors can inspire us and help us to want to become better!

Your ancestors' strength probably runs deeper than you think. That's what Anastacia Kennedy realized when she learned her great-grandmother's story.

“She was such an amazing, strong woman. I think in life, we have to look to our ancestors, or look to our family. They came before us. My great-grandmother had to deal with so many different struggles, but she made it.

“My great-grandmother borrowed somebody's shoes so she could go to college and become an accountant. She lost two daughters, was an early member of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), and lived to 104.

"She was just amazing. On days that I feel like I can't push for it, I think about my great-grandma. No matter what color or race, she empowered women. I just want to keep her name alive and her legacy alive by empowering women each and every day."—Anastacia

A century of that kind of strength doesn't disappear. It gets passed down. Who in your family carried it before you? Tell us about them below!

Meet the lovely sisters from Red Hill ward Relief Society ☺️

After participating in temple work, they popped in to try out the facilities in the Discovery Centre. Thanks for coming!

We were excited to have Rachel with us at the Centre, learning how to attach records to her tree 📜
Why is attaching records important? Since FamilySearch has a shared tree, your records can help others see where you got your information from, so they know it’s correct!
