On the 1st April, 2019 many natural treatments were no longer recognised and rebated by private health insurers. Many of these treatments have poor (if any) research supporting them, but Naturopathy and Western Herbal Medicine have a considerable evidence base. The Hon Greg Hunt, Federal Minister for Health has announced that the Commonwealth Chief Medical Officer will conduct a review of natural treatments and private insurance rebates. This review will proceed regardless of the results of the upcoming Federal election.

The federal government has just announced that they are updating their natural therapies review for private Health insurance rebates. This includes an update on the NHMRC review of natural therapies (2014-15)
