Nearly 25 years after Bend It Like Beckham hit screens, the message still holds up: girls thrive when they feel supported in sport.

Thanks to one of our Growing Healthy Communities grants, RMIT University researchers worked with the North Geelong Warriors FC to explore how soccer participation influences girls’ mental health and wellbeing.

Their findings showed that supportive and inclusive clubs help girls feel more confident, connected, and motivated to stay involved in sport.

What makes an Acknowledgement of Country feel meaningful, not tokenistic?

👉 Understanding the history of the land you're standing on.

AFL great Sam Mitchell shares how Hawthorn players spend time learning about the First Nations’ Country they grew up on. Its history, stories and what that land meant long before footy boots touched it.

Taking time to learn whose Country you're on and understand its significance can help make acknowledgements genuine and meaningful.

During Reconciliation Week and beyond, creating inclusive clubs is not a spectator sport. We must all step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.

Australia has made significant progress in reducing smoking rates.

But va**ng has emerged as a new challenge, with around 1 in 10 teenagers currently va**ng.

This World No To***co Day, we're continuing to support young people, families and communities to see va**ng for what it is and prevent ni****ne addiction before it starts.

-Helping young people challenge the perception that va**ng is normal and make informed choices through UNCLOUD.
-Supporting parents and carers with evidence-based conversation guides, now available in six languages
-Investing in community-led va**ng prevention initiatives through councils, sporting organisations and universities across Victoria

Because creating healthier futures for young people takes action across families, schools, communities and organisations.

At VicHealth, we know not everyone has hours to spend at the gym — but even small bursts of movement can make a real difference to your health.

Just like fruit or a handful of nuts, exercise snacks are a quick way to energise your body. No gym, gear or prep needed.

Short bursts of movement (30 seconds to five minutes) like stair sprints, jumping jacks or dancing, boost heart health, strength and brain power. Small moves = big impact.

“If I don’t start, I never have to stop.”

Watching his sister struggle with ni****ne addiction, Darcy saw first-hand the hold it can have on a person.

That’s why Darcy says no to va**ng.

With teens nine times more likely to v**e than adults, they need to be protected from the harms of va**ng and ni****ne. This is where our UNCLOUD campaign comes in. It gives Victorians aged 12-25 the support and facts they need to confidently say no. Learn more at uncloud.org

If you’re a parent wanting to talk to your kids about va**ng, we’ve got you. Check out our va**ng conversation guide for tips on how to get started: https://www.vichealth.vic.gov.au/parent-va**ng-guide

What if the secret to healthier kids wasn’t just the food on their plate but who’s helping make it?

VicHealth research shows 9 in 10 kids want to be involved in cooking.

That’s powerful because good health starts with good food, and when kids help prepare meals they’re more likely to try new ingredients, enjoy what they’re eating and build healthy habits that last well beyond childhood.

Inviting kids into the kitchen is a simple way to make nourishing food the norm, while also growing their confidence, skills and connection to what’s on their plate. The small moments you create now can help set them up for long-term health and wellbeing.

At VicHealth, we’re working to make healthy food easier to find, easier to afford, and easier to choose so families can build lifelong healthy habits together.
