difficulties don't always announce themselves. Often, the first sign is a resident eating less, avoiding certain foods, or a chest infection that seems to come from nowhere.
In residential aged care, dysphagia is more common than people realise and when it's missed, the impact on nutrition, hydration, and quality of life can be serious.
That's why we're bringing together two experienced clinicians for a practical, evidence-based session on dysphagia management in residential aged care.
✨ Sarah is a Speech Pathologist at Vivir Healthcare, with deep experience in aged care - working closely with the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) Framework to support safer swallowing and better communication outcomes for older adults.
✨ Chrissy is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Business Development Manager at Precise Health (QLD North), focused on turning nutrition and hydration science into practical, high-quality care that actually works on the floor.
Together, they'll walk through what dysphagia management looks like in practice - the early signs to watch for, common gaps in care, and how allied health and nursing teams can work together to get better outcomes for residents.
